Minji felt strangely nervous, afraid that she might appear again. She glanced at the glass of water on the table. It had been a few days since the incident with Hanni appearing in her room at night.
Minji thought she had hallucinated because she had been drunk, but that wasn't the case.
She saw her day and night until she was no longer sure what was real and what was a product of her imagination.
She was losing her last touch of sanity.
At night, Hanni would crawl into bed and lie beside her. Her eyes seemed empty, devoid of emotion.
Minji tried to tell herself it was her mind playing tricks, but as the days went by, her resolve was fading.
She saw her in her office, at home, or wherever she went.
Hanni kept blaming her for her death.

How long had it been since she had made a visit to this godforsaken place?
She couldn't remember, but what she did remember was how uncomfortable it was to sit in this chair.
She glanced at the psychiatrist who was looking at Minji with that scrutinizing look.
Dr. Shin was a man around fifty, with gray hair, a thick mustache, and a bulging stomach. He was one of the best psychiatrists in the city.
His face was always serious.
Minji wasn't sure if the doctor was good at keeping a stern face or if he was genuinely puzzled by the situation.
"Do you think I'm lying, Dr. Shin? I'm telling the truth," Minji insisted. "I'm being haunted by my dead wife."
Dr. Shin shook his head. "That's realistically impossible, Minji. Ghosts don't exist. They're a product of our imagination, something humans like to think exists, but they don't."
Minji clenched a fistful of her hair in frustration, about to suffer a breakdown. "I can't sleep at night because she keeps staring at me. She wants me dead." Minji couldn't tell the doctor exactly why she saw her.
"When did you start having these hallucinations?"
Minji gaped at the doctor. "I just told you I'm not hallucinating. I'm. Not. Crazy. I see her every damn time."
The doctor shook his head. "Minji, these things happen when a patient feels guilty when their partner dies. I'm sure your situation is similar. I want you to talk about this openly so I can help you." When Minji didn't respond, Dr. Shin continued. "There's one thing we can do. How about you admit yourself to the asylum? That way we can keep you under observation for forty-eight hours and diagnose what's happening."
Minji said in her calmest voice, "I can't stay here, but I need you to prescribe me some medication so I can sleep more."
"But—"
"I said I wanted the medication," Minji interrupted with a voice suggesting there was no room for discussion.
Dr. Shin sighed.
He was used to Minji's mood swings, so he took a notepad and prescribed some medication. "I know you're not keen on admitting yourself here, but I suggest you do. If you find yourself having hallucinations again, don't hesitate to call me."
"Thank you, doctor." Minji picked up her jacket and left the office.

"Mom, when will mommy come home?" Daehan asked when he got home that night after a soccer game with his friend.
Minji was tired of answering the same question every day and didn't understand how she could make the boy forget about his mommy sooner rather than later.
She had tried keeping Daehan busy with extracurricular activities like swimming and painting, but it all came down to when Hanni was coming back.
Minji took her medication from the dressing table drawer and swallowed it with a glass of water.
After her talk with the psychiatrist, Minji thought a lot about what she had discussed with Dr. Shin.
Daehan walked over to where Minji was sitting and looked at her with those big brown eyes. "Mom?"
"Come here, Dae," Minji beckoned him.
Daehan was hesitant at first but stepped towards her.
Minji pulled Daehan closer, the whiff of baby soap entering her nose. "Mommy's not here, and I don't think she'll be back for a while." Daehan was about to burst into tears again. "Do you want to visit mommy?" Minji asked, to which the boy instantly brightened up.
"Yes, mom. Will you take me there?"
"Of course, mom will take you."
Daehan clutched Minji's fingers as they left the room, the boy unable to contain his happiness at the idea of seeing his mommy.
They headed towards the elevator.
She pressed the button, and the elevator rose to the rooftop. When they reached the roof, she lifted Daehan in her arms and stopped at the edge of the railing.
Daehan was afraid of heights, so he squirmed. "Mom... I'm scared."
"Why are you scared, Daehan?" Minji asked. "You, my son, shouldn't be afraid of anything. Haven't you learned all these years?"
Daehan swung his legs, tears rolling down his eyes. "But you said you would take me to see mommy..."
"That's why we're here, Dae. I'm taking you to mommy."
As Daehan shook his legs, his shoe slipped off the ledge. Daehan looked down and began crying and screaming loudly. Minji leaned a bit closer.
So this is how it ends...
One jump.
