Chapter Twenty-Three

Chapter 23

Driving down I-54 in her government truck, her cell rang. Not even having to look at the number as she knew the ring tone, she answered, "Hey sis."

"So. How are things going?" Marlena went straight to the task as Kristen could hear a hint of laughter in her big sister's voice.

"Fine." Kristen groaning knowing all to well why her sister was asking.

"Have you been taking any cold showers lately?" Marlena couldn't help but laugh.

Growling, "I am so glad that you find this so funny."

"I do, I really do, but I am also so very proud of you for finely finding your soul mate." Concern had replaced her humor, "You are believing that he is your mate now aren't you?"

If she only knew, Kristen thought as she told her sister yes.

"Have you talked to him yet?" Marlena asked eagerly.

"Yes. We talked this morning. He found where I lived by the paths we have been making." which concerned her as she has to figure out how to cover them.

"Really!" Marlena was surprised, "I didn't know humans can get it that bad being that he had tracked you down the hard way. What did he want besides you?" her eagerness was getting the best of her now.

"He wanted to let me know that we were safe living here as he wasnt' like the old Hunters in the old days just wanted to kill our kind every chance they got. He called it 'Good Faith. So in my 'Good Faith' I informed him on what was going on with this other pack." Kristen told her.

Then she added, "He wanted me to let Alpha Dallas know everything that we went over even though he didn't asked to speak to him when he first arrived, and we sort of kissed before he left."

"Whoa, what? You kissed him?" Marlena gasped.

"Yes. I ended up making the first move and well he made the second..." She could feel herself get red even though she tells her sister everything. She was still shy on her love life.

"I bet that was a firey kiss." she teased.

"Ha ha ha. It was but damn it still felt great and he tasted good too." Kristen still had a slight burning in her mouth.

"Just give it some time little sis. He's still human. Once you complete the mating it will be great. He'll be your little lap wolf."

Kristen had forgotten all about changing him as panic started to settle in.

When Kristen's end went dead silences, "Sis. You there? Kristen, Kristen what's wrong? What happen?" Marlena's voice was heavy with worry.

"He's human." Kristen remembered.

A sigh of relief swept over Marlena, "Yes he is."

"I have to change him. I have to change him so that he can claim me. You know humans sometimes die if their body doesn't except the change. What will happen to me if his body doesn't except it. What will happen to me knowing that I killed my soul mate? I don't think I can go through with it. I can't change him." full panic hit as she had to pull over.

"Kristen listen to me." Marlena's voice was calm yet firm at the same time, "I don't think if a wolf fines that his or her soul mate is human that their bodies wouldn't except it. If anything it should tell you that they can."

Tears had already fell from Kristen's eyes as her wolf was panicy too. Marlena does have a point however. Why would you find out that your soul mate was human and they don't make it through the change. Why go through that, yes you may find another but you won't love as strongly as you do your soul mate.

"Kristen?...Kristen you still there?" Marlena was not getting a bit frantic know that her little sister had the thought of killing her mate in her mind.

"Yes." she assured her, "You're right, but it's still scary knowing the fact that you still might end up killing your mate if it doesn't work."

It took some time but Marlena finely managed to calm her baby sister down. Not really wanting to let her go, Marlena knew she had to get back to work. She made sure that Kristen would be alright and told her to call her back when she gets off as well as she would be call Dallas being that he was now her Beta to watch over her.

Saying their good-byes Kristen placed her cell back into her shirt pocket. As for the rest of the night, it went by at a snail's pace.
