Chapter 26

The ride back to Kristen's house was quite but Amber knew that her old friend was worried. "May I give you some friendly advise?" her voice was soft.

Taking a deep breath, Kristen was fighting back the tears as she nodded.

"I don't have to be here to see that you are a great Alpha. The wolf spirit had picked you to become a True Alpha. It wouldn't lie. It sees something in you. Follow you heart, trust your instincts. You were always one of the best because of that."

Tears slowly fell from Kristen's eyes, as she wiped them away, "Sorry."

"For what. Hurting. Just because you're a True Royal Alpha doesn't mean you can't show your feels. That's what makes you a great Alpha. You show compassion but you are also firm. That is what makes you great." Amber told her.

More tears fell, "Thank you."

Pulling up to Kristen's house, Amber wasn't surprise to see that it wasn't big. It was a single one story wooden farm house with a half wrap porch. Her pack house was the bigest as it too was a wood frame two story house with just a full length front porch.

"You have a nice place here." Amber complemented.

"Thank you." Kristen smiled as she opened her door. She doesn't normally lock it unless she is going out of town for a few days.

"Please. Make yourself at home. I'll start getting lunch ready." Kristen told her as she headed towards her pantry.

Looking at what she had, Kristen decided to make Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas with red seasoned rice and Guacomole Salad.

Prepping for their meal, Amber asked, "Kristen? Did you know the guy that was murdered in the woods?"

Sighing, "Not personally. I first met him on a fire call. His eldest brother's land was on fire and they called the fire department. His name is Brydon Brixton, he has two other brothers. The one that lives here is Jax brother."

"Do you need to go over and talk to Jax?" Amber kindly suggested.

Being that a rouge werewolf had killed Brydon, Kristen thought it would be best to give Jax some time before going over to see him. Being that she is a werewolf, she didn't want to get him upset any more than he is now. She didn't want him to try to kill her as she didn't want to kill him to save herself. Just the thought of that weighed heavy on her heart.

"No." Kristen softly replied.

Even though it was low. There was so much emotion in that one little word that Amber realize why Kristen was acting so scattered.

"You found your soul mate. It's Jax isn't it. The brother of Brydon who was killed." Amber lit up.

The hesitation gave it away that she was right, "You need to go comfort him them." she told her.

Shaking her head, "It's complicated." Kristen's voice was low as she continued to work on their food.

Smiling warmly, "Then explain it to me. I do understand when your...mate is hurting." She would know. Ethen was always worried about Kristen.

Sighing heavily Kristen knew all to well where Amber was going.

"Amber." Kristen's voice had a hint of pain as she stopped cooking. "I never meant to hurt you or put you through any of our mess. That was one of the reasons I left. You two are meant to be together and you are good to him."

Her smile softened more, "I know. I also know why...I can faintly scenes him still on you from his mark." Amber's smile fainted as her mate still on another female wolf.
