Sepehr was the one who dropped to the ground.
My legs are shaking but I managed to make a run to him. My feet wobble for every step I take, as if my ankles are going to snap anytime soon.
I lunged myself forward, directing my steps to Sepehr who let out a loud grunt. He was breathing heavily and his hands were pressed on his waist.
Under the flickering lights, I could see his eyebrows narrowed and he was wincing out of pain. And slowly, I began to see blood dyeing his white clothes in a dark red color.
I couldn't resist the gasp that burst out my mouth, and my hands instinctively covered my lips from making another sound. My eyes widened at the rapid flow of blood running down his forearm and dripping down to the ground.
"Sepehr!" I shouted and I kneeled down beside him, taking a quick scan at the severity of his wounds.
He held his shaky breath, looked at me and muttered two words, "Fucking brat."
And the sound of a door being slammed was heard from here, and I saw the other door to the specimen room shut.
My gaze switched to the interior of the specimen room, landing on the railings attached beside the huge tank, where our hostage was supposed to be. But it's empty, no one was sitting there.
Our hostage.
I'm not even done interrogating him yet, and he'd already put a bullet into my companion's guts.
I glared at him, as I reached out to help, "Why the fuck would you leave him unguarded?"
I raised my arms and pressed it on his shoulders, my lips muttering words that I hope was encouraging to him. I eyed his dark red hands as if he'd stuck his entire hand into his own guts.
I patted his shoulders and suggested, "Quick, lay against the wall."
He managed to nod, and lifted one arm to help support his own weight. He pushed himself backwards with one arm and my hands helped lead the way, positioning himself against the wall.
As I was about to tell him to show me the wound, I heard rushed footsteps charging towards us. My head bounced up and saw Ayven sprinting towards where Kaysen just went. He was still holding the gun like he's prepared to fire anytime.
"Ayven, don't go!" I called after him, as he was approaching the other door.
He turned back immediately without hesitation, his face gentle as ever, his manner calm as if there wasn't a gunshot just a second ago.
"Yes, yes, I'm not going anywhere," he returned to my side and squatted down.
When my gaze returned to the casualty, Sepehr's eyes were squeezed shut, his brows pinched and his throat shakes whenever he exhaled.
"Please," I turned to Ayven and pleaded, "help him."
I saw him hesitate for a while and reached for the bleeding man. His arms steady on the bloodied clothes and tore it apart with his bare hands, then tucked it away.
He turned to me afterwards as if waiting for me to say something but he spoke first when he perceived that I'm speechless.
"It's your turn," he hinted, backing away a bit to allow me space, "that's all I can do."
My gaze widened with surprise, "What?"
He gestured to the wound, where blood was constantly gushing out, saying, "Use your powers."
I took my position and got closer to Sepehr who I assumed was gradually losing his own consciousness the longer to take to solve this problem. He was still holding on, but his hands had fallen on the ground and his breaths were shaky as if he'a clutching onto the last few seconds of his life painstakingly.
