"Do you think you'll be truly free after escaping this facility?" He has the nerves to taunt me when I'm controlling every beat of his heart.

I'm wearing the socks the facility gave me and it's now soaked in blood after walking down the bloodied hallway. My legs are somewhat sore from the entire walk, and Kaysen is only walking further and further ahead of me since he doesn't seem to be tired from this walk.

My gaze bounced from one corpse to another, scanning every body to check if it's Ayven. Every single time I braced myself for the face of someone that's cared for me on one of the bloodied bodies.

We've walked far into this hallway now, and the corpses I've seen so far belong to the guards and rarely a worker. My lungs had grown used to the smell of blood when I followed Kaysen into another hallway, the surrounding air seemed different and new in my lungs.

The atmosphere was suffocating and it's warning me of the worst case scenarios.

I'm extremely focused on my surroundings, detecting every click and thuds around me, then instantly identifying its cause. I am prepared to attack, prepared to retaliate, prepared to fight. I am waiting for a prey to come into sight.

"Don't you feel safe here?" He asked again after I ignored him. It's always been him who talks, and it's always the same topic over and over.

I ignored him again and he continued to say, "You have to know you'll never be free after you leave our guard."

"I'm not the weak little girl you see me as anymore," I tell him, "and you needn't worry about me."

"Great to see you affected by my care," he teased, "but you-

"Have the girl over, captain."

The bags under my eyes dropped, and I'm being haunted by one of the many nightmares chasing me. It's an eternal nightmare blinding me from my powers, a core of memory concealing my eyes from the world, a strike of a thunder that shook off my armor, leaving me the weak little girl I was.

It was the voice calling me his puppet, his creation, his weapon, when I was shot in the leg.

Derrick's voices are carved and inked into my head. When I heard that voice, I felt the ghost of a kick into my injured right leg, sending me off to the stairs and leaving me at the bottom to rot. Now, it feels like the gunshot wound that's been sealed off was tearing itself open by the sound of his voice.

I watched Kaysen turn, his eyes the usual glare he gives everyone. His hands are tucked in his pocket and he's strolling towards me.

Two of the people who hurt me in the past are here, but they are now enemies.

And I have no idea whose side I want on.

I heard Kaysen muttering to himself, "How many times did I say to not cut me off?"

My gaze was still pinned and dilated at the floor, and I noticed Kaysen trailing to stand beside me.

I snapped out of my thoughts when our shoulders brushed and he whispered in my ear, "As I was saying, powers can be duplicated," he says and I flinched at how close we were, "Just remember that Derrick is always aiming to steal your powers."

I looked up at him as his hand came to grab my shoulder, turning me around to face Derrick. He gave me a smile and paused as I was facing him.

For the first time since our encounter, we looked into each other's eyes. I saw the pair of yellow eyes before, reminding me of how unique I find them to be whenever I see them in the vague picture of my father. The pair of bright eyes that reminds me of the stars I've never met in a long time, the eyes I've always wished I have.
