"Bring in the accused." A silent brother says and Leya walks in with a Shadowhunter on each side of her and her hands cuffed together, and they stop behind a podium and unlock her cuffs and the Silent Brother puts the soul-sword on top of the holder on top of the podium.
"Place your hands on the sword." The Silent brother tells her and places his hands on top of hers which hovers over the sword.
"The last time I touched this, my sister destroyed some of its powers." Leya tells him as she looks Penhallow.
"To kill Downworlders. It can still draw the truth." Penhallow tells her.
"Hands!" the Silent brother says and then pushes her hands onto the sword and steps back and the sword lights up.
"Why did you come to Alicante?" Penhallow asks as she steps forward towards her and Leya struggles to keep quiet.
"To steal the Malachi Configuration." Leya tells her.
"Seems the sword's working just fine." Penhallow tells her. ••• "Why were you digging up your father's body?" Penhallow asks as she walks in front of Leya.
"I wasn't." Leya tells her.
"Then who was?" Penhallow asks.
"It was Jace." Leya says as she tries to hold back.
"Jace Herondale? Then why did we find you in the cemetery?" Penhallow asks.
"Because I helped him escape." Leya tells her.
"Why was Jace digging up Valentine?" Penhallow asks.
"I don't know." Leya tells her.
"Did Jace kill Imogen?" Penhallow asks.
"I think so." Leya tells her.
"Why would Jace kill the only true family he has?" Penhallow asks.
"He's not in control of what he's doing." Leya tells her.
"Why? Why?" Penhallow asks.
"Because he's been possessed by the Queen of Edom." Leya tells her.
"How did that happen?" Penhallow asks. ••• "How did Jace become possessed by Lilith? How did Jace become possessed by Lilith?" Penhallow asks when Leya doesn't answer the first time.
"He was vulnerable." Leya tells her.
"Why?" Penhallow asks.
"Because Valentine killed him at Lake Lyn." Leya tells her.
"You mean tried to kill him?" Penhallow asks.
"No. He was dead." Leya tells her.
"If Jace was dead...how is he alive now?" Penhallow asks and Leya doesn't answer, and the sword glows brighten until the sword flies off the holder and lands on the ground.
"You want the truth? I don't need the sword." Leya tells her and then two guards come up and grab ahold of her.
"No! Let her speak." Penhallow tells the guards and they let her go and step back as the silent brother picks up the sword.
"After my father killed Jace he summoned Raziel to compel a wish. But I killed Valentine first...and then used the wish to bring Jace back." Leya tells her.
"Do you have any idea what you've done? Since the time of Jonathan Shadowhunter, we have battled demons with the reassurance that if an insurmountable evil were to take over the world, the Angel's wish could save us. You've taken that away." Penhallow tells her as she walks forward to her.
"To you, an insurmountable evil is a world overrun by demons. To me, it's the mass murder of all beings with demon blood. Any wish that has the power to cause that kind of harm is not a gift. It's a curse. I'm glad it's gone." Leya tells her. ••• "Do you have anything you'd like to say before receiving your sentence?" Penhallow asks as they stand inside Leya's cell.
"If you were at Lake Lyn...and it was Aline instead of Jace...what would you have done?" Leya asks.
"I know you were raised by your father and your sister has an influence on you to see things the mundane way...with the idealistic belief that love comes above all. If I'd been at Lake Lyn, we'd still have Raziel's wish. Because being a Shadowhunter is about sacrifice. That's the one thing you used to understand. But maybe now you will. Cataleya Fairchild...you are hereby sentenced...to death." Penhallow tells her.
