"Hey...can we talk?" Jace asks as he jogs over to Leya as she walks.
"About what?" Leya asks.
"About how you keep walking out of the room every time I walk in?" Jace asks.
"No, I haven't." Leya tells him.
"Yeah, you have, Leya. And look, I get it, but we can't avoid each other forever." Jace tells her.
"Jace, Valentine's missing. We have more important things to deal with right now than who's avoiding who." Leya tells him as they walk up to Alec, Izzy and Clary.
"Any word from Magnus or Luke?" Clary asks.
"No. With Valentine free, the Downworld Cabinet had been holding secluded meetings at the Seelie Court." Alec tells them.
"Well, that's not good." Jace tells him.
"You think anything good happens there?" Leya asks.
"The clave isn't going to let this go unpunished. The Inquisitor's sent an envoy to assess the situation. Chances are they'll be the ones replacing me as Head of the institute." Alec tells them.
"Not if we can recapture Valentine. Sebastian and all available personnel are searching. We already know Duncan managed to hijack the Portal." Izzy tells him.
"If he was Luke's accomplice, he could have been orchestrating the secret transfer all along." Jace tells her.
"Listen...I appreciate the effort, but Valentine escaped on my watch. I deserve to take the heat for it." Alec tells them.
"This isn't your fault, it's mine. I was the one in charge of the transfer team." Izzy tells him.
"Hey, we all were. Look Alec, you are a good leader. You can't just let Imogen fire you over something you didn't do." Jace tells Alec.
"Alec will do as he's ordered." Robert tells Jace as he walks over to them.
"Dad?" Izzy asks.
"What are you doing here?" Alec asks.
"I'm the clave's envoy. We need to talk." Robert tells him. ••• "You asked Alec to assign the both of us to search Staten Island?" Leya asks as she walks into the room where Jace is.
