"Would you like coffee, Daisy?" he asks. I hide my face in his chest and nod my head, I know I am blushing. I can't help it. He is just so handsome and has the sweetest heart - I am in love and I can't believe I am in his bed. I only met him last night and I would never normally do this but, he swept me off my feet. He is sweet and charming, and funny too. He is also a rancher and that Stetson of his has me weak in the knees. "What about breakfast?" he asks. I lift my head and peep up at him. He looks like he should be on the cover of a magazine. "Yes. I would love breakfast," I whisper. He watches me for a while with a soft smile on his lips then sits up and cups my cheeks. "Daisy...do you believe in love at first sight?" he whispers. I can feel my heart beating in my toes. "I do now, Max," I whisper. He smiles and kisses the tip of my nose. "Good. Breakfast!" he announces then climbs out of bed and ducks out the room.
He makes me feel like a princess and like I am floating on a cloud. I climb out of bed and wander down to the kitchen then stand in the doorway watching him, giggling when he sings to himself. "You want coffee too, right?" he asks and makes signs with his hands while he talks. He does that a lot. "Yes please...may I ask you a question? Two actually," I ask. "Sure!" he says filling a cup with coffee and handing it to me. "You make shapes with your hands sometimes when you talk...sign language. Why do you do that?"
"My aunt is deaf. I learnt to sign before I learnt to talk. All my cousins did too. Sometimes I sign while I speak without realizing it."
"Oh...OK. You have a lot of cousins?"
"A whole bunch! They are all fiery and full of life."
"No siblings?"
"No. I was a magic baby. A blessing, I remind my family all the time how lucky they are to have me," Max says with a grin. He makes me giggle, he is very light-hearted and playful. "Besides my cousins are more like siblings than anything else. They are always up my ass about something. We are very close and they introduce me as their big brother."
"You have a big family?"
"Huge! My uncle tends to collect strays so there is always someone new who is suddenly part of our family."
"Sounds like a happy family..."
"We are. You have another question, Miss Daisy?"
"We met at a bar last night. All your friends were drinking, but you were not..."
"Oh, I don't drink."
"You don't? Why? Sorry... that's a bit nosy."
"It's OK, I don't mind," he says turning back to the stove and dishing up the breakfast he had made. A cowboy who can cook. Am I dreaming? He smiles and places my breakfast in front of me then sits down opposite me. "I don't drink because my uncle was an alcoholic. A bad one...like real bad."
"Oh...I am sorry. Is he...is it an...oh gosh, I don't know what I am asking. I am normally never this nosy...I just want to get to know you, all of you...your life...I am rambling."
Max chuckles and shakes his head. "Ain't no thing, honey. My uncle has been sober for years. I have no recollection of him being a drunk but my dad says some real bad shit went down. It's weird, I am very close to my uncle, he lives just up the road and the thought of him being a drunk just does not compute. I don't drink not because I am scared it would tempt him - that man will never drink. I just don't drink out of respect for the battle he fought and won. The same goes for my whole family, none of us drink - we do things together. My uncle beat all odds, he is amazing. Defiantly one of my favourite people in the world."
"He sounds amazing. He has a beautiful legacy then if he overcame something like that."
"Oh, that's not his legacy."
