It was a crisp autumn evening, the kind where the chill in the air seemed to wrap around you like an old friend. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the training ground where you waited for Alessia Russo. You'd come to watch her practice, a tradition that had started a few months ago when you first began dating.
As the last of her teammates trickled off the field, Alessia spotted you, her face lighting up with a smile that always made your heart skip a beat. She jogged over, her ponytail bouncing with each step, and without hesitation, pulled you into a tight embrace.
Her arms wrapped around you with a warmth that melted the autumn chill. You closed your eyes, breathing in the familiar scent of her hair, a mix of fresh grass and the faintest hint of her shampoo. The hug was comforting, grounding you in a way that nothing else could.
You felt her strong, athletic body against yours, every muscle honed from hours of training. The world seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of you in this perfect moment. Time lost its meaning as the seconds stretched into minutes, neither of you wanting to let go.
"Did you enjoy the practice?" Alessia's voice was soft, her breath warm against your ear.
You nodded, pulling back just enough to look into her eyes. "You were amazing, as always."
Her smile widened, and she tightened her hold, resting her forehead against yours. "I'm glad you're here. It means a lot to me."
Your heart swelled with affection. You knew her schedule was demanding, the pressures of professional football weighing heavily on her shoulders. But in this embrace, it felt like everything was right in the world.
A few teammates passed by, casting curious glances your way. One of them, Leah, gave a teasing shout, "Alright, lovebirds, save some for later!"
You both laughed, but neither of you moved to break the hug. Instead, Alessia's hands began to gently rub your back in soothing circles. You could feel the strength in her fingers, a testament to her dedication and hard work.
"Do you think they find our hugs too long?" you asked, a hint of amusement in your voice.
Alessia shrugged, a playful glint in her eyes. "Let them think what they want. I like holding you close."
Her words sent a pleasant shiver down your spine. You buried your face in the crook of her neck, savouring the moment. The world could wait. Here, in Alessia's arms, you felt safe, cherished, and profoundly loved.
Eventually, reality beckoned, and you reluctantly pulled back. But Alessia kept one arm around your shoulders, leading you towards the parking lot. "Come on," she said with a grin. "Let's get some dinner. My treat."
As you walked side by side, her arm never leaving your shoulders, you realised that it wasn't just the length of the hug that mattered. It was the connection, the understanding that in each other's arms, you found home.
And as long as you had that, you knew you could face anything. Together.
