Jake had always felt like an honorary member of the Russo family. His parents and the Russos had been close friends for years, and he grew up spending weekends at their house, playing football in the backyard with Alessia's brothers, Luca and Giorgio. They were like the siblings he never had, and Alessia was the little sister who'd tag along, eager to join in.

Tonight, both families were having dinner together at the Russo household, and the atmosphere was as lively as ever. The table was overflowing with delicious Italian dishes, and everyone was in high spirits. The familiar sound of laughter echoed through the dining room as everyone settled down to eat.

Jake found his usual spot between Luca and Giorgio, with Alessia seated across from him. She shot him a playful grin, her eyes twinkling with mischief. They'd always had this unspoken bond, the kind where they could communicate without words—usually at the expense of her brothers.

"Jake, pass the bread," Giorgio requested, not looking up from his plate.

"Sure," Jake replied, handing over the basket but not before sneaking a piece for himself. "You're lucky I'm not keeping it all for myself."

Giorgio smirked. "You wouldn't dare."

"Oh, you know I would," Jake shot back with a grin. Alessia giggled from across the table, and they shared a knowing glance.

Dinner progressed smoothly, with the usual teasing and banter flying across the table. At some point, the conversation turned to embarrassing childhood stories, and both Jake and Alessia perked up. This was their moment.

"You know, Luca," Jake started, leaning back in his chair casually. "Remember that time you tried to impress that girl at school by doing a backflip off the swings?"

Luca's face immediately turned red as he realised what was coming. "Jake, don't you dare—"

"And he ended up with his pants caught on the swing chain!" Alessia finished for him, bursting into laughter.

The whole table erupted in laughter, Luca burying his face in his hands. "You two are the worst," he groaned, though a smile tugged at his lips.

"We live to serve," Jake quipped, raising his glass in a mock toast. Alessia mimicked the gesture, her eyes sparkling with delight.

Giorgio, who had been laughing at his brother's expense, didn't notice Alessia and Jake exchanging another glance. "What about you, Giorgio?" Alessia asked sweetly. "Remember that time you tried to convince everyone you were allergic to homework?"

The table went silent for a moment before erupting into even louder laughter. Giorgio's face paled as everyone turned to him, including his parents.

"Oh, we're not letting you off the hook," Jake added, grinning wickedly. "You even faked a sneeze in class. It was Oscar-worthy."

Giorgio sighed dramatically, leaning back in his chair. "You two are the worst tag team."

"Thanks, we try," Alessia said, smiling proudly. Jake winked at her, feeling a warm sense of camaraderie.

After dinner, the families moved to the living room, where the conversation continued. Jake and Alessia ended up on the couch together, still basking in the afterglow of their successful roasting session.

"You know," Jake began, nudging her playfully, "we make a pretty good team."

"Of course we do," Alessia replied, bumping his shoulder with hers. "We've had years of practice."

"True," Jake agreed. "But I think we're only getting started."

Alessia chuckled, leaning back into the couch. "So, what's the plan for our next sibling takedown?"

Jake pretended to ponder for a moment before turning to her with a mischievous grin. "How do you feel about a prank war?"

Her eyes lit up at the idea. "Oh, I'm in. Let's do it."

As the evening wound down, and everyone started to say their goodbyes, Jake and Alessia shared one last conspiratorial glance, knowing that the next time they were all together, the sibling duo would be ready with more tricks up their sleeves.

"See you soon, Jake," Alessia called as he made his way to the door.

"Count on it," he replied with a wink.

As Jake walked home with his parents, he couldn't help but smile. He always loved these family dinners, not just for the food or the laughter, but for the connection he had with Alessia. They weren't related by blood, but their bond was as strong as any sibling relationship. And honestly, it felt pretty perfect just the way it was.

But Jake knew one thing for sure: Alessia Russo was definitely the best partner-in-crime he could ask for.
