The first thing I felt as I woke up was the tension around my sides. I cringe at the discomfort, a sound of unease letting itself be heard.

"Ah, you're awake," a voice notes.

I force my heavy eyes open to see a man in a lab coat. He held a clipboard in his hand, reaching up to check on an IV bag that I follow down to my own arm.

"We thought you would be out for a few more hours at least. It's good to see you're recovering quicker than I'd initially assumed," he continues.

He looks to me and smiles at the confusion on my face.

"Let me guess." He holds a finger up. "You're trying to figure out- one: where you are, two: who I am, three: if the man you were with is okay, four: what happened to the men that assaulted you."

"Something like that," I find my weak voice.

"The men that assaulted you- they're dead. And the man you were with is also recovering, but he hasn't woken up just yet."

I relax a little at the words, my eyes scanning over the hospital room I was in. But, I needed to see Daniel. I had to know for sure.

"I am Doctor Edwards," he says as he holds a hand to his chest. "And you're currently in Grady Memorial Hospital."

My mind races with more confusion and I push myself to sit up only for that pain to hit again.

"Careful," Doctor Edwards warns, placing a hand on my shoulder to ease me back to the bed, "You had three cracked ribs and a concussion. You shouldn't be moving so fast like that."

"I need to see Daniel," I argue, pushing myself to sit up.

The hospital gown on my body sticks out. My eyebrows crunch together in confusion.

"Rick," I say. "Is Rick.."

"You were only with one man," the doctor says. "It was just the two of you."

Right. Okay. I shake my head softly, ignoring the dizziness that went through me like a pulse. I stand up and hold onto the IV rack.

"Where is he?" I ask.

"You really shouldn't be moving around-"

"Where is he," I demand.

The doors open to my room and an officer walks in.

"Everything good, Doc?"

"Fine, Gorman," he replies.

"It's nice to meet you now that you're awake," the officer greets with a smile.

I look him up and down. I felt so vulnerable without a weapon. I hated it. I still felt like I just woke up in a daydream.

Disoriented.

Rick said that he felt disoriented when he woke up from his coma.

I didn't understand it until now.

"Gorman, can you grab Dawn?" the doctor asks. "She should know one of our new guests is up and going."

I hardly felt 'going'. I continue to lean on the metal rack, but I felt my energy draining just from trying to keep myself up. Gorman leaves the room and my guard lessens. I sit down on the edge of the bed, flinching in pain from my side.

"Why did you help us?" I ask the doctor.

"Isn't that what people are supposed to do?"

"What do you get out of this?" I urge. "You didn't help us out of the good of your heart."

"Just because it's the end of the world doesn't mean-"

"This place is crawling with cops. That's the third one I've seen," I cut him off. "Cops don't do things out of the goodness of their heart. Doesn't matter if the world is shit or not."

Doctor Edwards walks around the room, standing in front of me, further than arms reach. I look up at him, irritated and done with the situation.

"We saved your lives," he states.

"And what do you want from it?" I demand, still pushing.

"Is it so hard to just trust someone?"

"I don't trust anyone," I deny.

"Do you trust Rick Grimes?" he twists the words on me.

I mentioned Rick at the trunk. Again here.

"Rick Grimes?" someone asks. "I haven't heard that name in a minute."

The room feels overwhelmingly cold.

The door shuts behind another pair of officers.

"How does our friend here know of Rick Grimes?" the man asks.

I feel tears spring to my eyes. Doctor Edwards steps to the side so I can lock eyes with the officer.

"Hyejin," Shane whispers.

I look him up and down. His hair had grown back. He was wearing an Atlanta officer uniform like the others. His arms were broader and he looked stronger.

"Hyejin.." he whispers again, his sarcastic grin dropping in favor of disbelief.

I stand up again on shaky legs. I don't feel the pain in my side anymore. I don't feel anything.

Shane opens his arms and steps toward me.

I draw back and punch him in the face.
