"Maggie told me to stay on the bus, but I couldn't just leave the kids behind.. Especially with you all the way out there. So, I went back for them. I couldn't carry both Woojin and Judith, but luckily I saw Luke and Molly. They took Judith and we went for the bus.. But, then, I turned around and they weren't there."

My heart aches as Beth recalls the prison separation just days ago.

"I went back to find them, but couldn't. I found Daryl, though."

"Daryl?" I repeat.

"He got me and Woojin out," she remembers. "We were on the road. Barely getting by.. Daryl was tracking you, but it ended up being a dead end."

"Tracking? Where at?"

"Out off the main highway in the woods. Then, by some train tracks."

I run a hand through my hair and nod. "I was trying to leave signs, but.. shit got crazy. I never made it to any tracks, though."

"He wasn't sure if they were your tracks or Michonne's," Beth admits. "He saw Carl's tracks and he just assumed you were together."

"I got out with Maggie, Sasha, and Bob," I reveal. "But, we split up."

"A herd?"

I feel a bit of guilt. Shame. Maggie and I didn't get split up.. we just split up on our own terms. Somehow, that felt worse now.

"I'm sure they're fine," Beth says, keeping spirits high. "Anyway.. I stumbled into a bear trap and hurt my ankle. Daryl found us a shelter for the night, but it didn't last."

"People?"

"Herd. Broke down our defenses and all.. Daryl told me to get Woojin and go. He said he'd be right behind us. I ran out with Woojin, but some walkers got between us. Carrying Woojin and supplies with a sprained ankle wasn't good while fighting them. Blacked out. Then, I woke up here."

I reach over and rest my hands on her arm and hand. "Thank you, Beth. Really. I can't say it enough. You saving Woojin.. it's everything to me. Thank you."

Beth smiles a bit. "You'd do the same for me. I mean.. I can't deny that seeing your face as soon as I woke up wasn't a sign. That's gotta be good, right?"

I caress the back of her hand with my thumb and sigh a bit.

"Was Maggie okay when you split?"

I felt stuck between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand, I could tell Beth that Maggie and I went out separate ways because Maggie didn't think Beth was alive. I did. I had faith that Beth was alive and with the kids.. part of it was true- most of it, really. But, Maggie thought Beth was already dead. That Beth couldn't survive.

Or, I could lie. I could tell Beth that we got split by a herd and things were up in the air. That her sister didn't lose faith in her and was out there right now looking for her.

"I think she got out with Sasha," I decide. "It was hard to tell."

Beth nods and takes a deep breath. "So.. what is this place? How do we find Daryl? The others?"

"Shane is here," I start with the biggest part. Before she could question, I continue. "He and Andrea found Sophia. They lost Andrea.. Shane and Sophia are both here."

"Sophia.. that's Carol's daughter, right?"

"Yeah," I say with a nod, feeling like the farm was a decade ago. "They're just.. corrupt cops pretending they have their shit together."

I take a breath and shrug. "But, they saved our lives."

"So, this is home now?"

"I don't think the word 'home' really applies anymore," I confess.
