I didn't have time to hug Rick upon reuniting. His message was a shout of locations.
Carl. Infirmary.
Judith. Church.
Woojin. Jessie's house.
"Safe?" I shout back amidst the walkers.
"Judith with Gabriel! Carl with Denise! Woojin with Daniel!"
I look around the group that was fighting back. Gabriel was here, so Judith was still at the church, presumably with others. Carl was at the infirmary- probably guarding the patients.
"We got seperated at Jessie's!" Rick continues. "They're upstairs. Trapped!"
From there, it was pure muscle memory and panic.
I run through the streets, going against the grain of everyone else. Rick shouted for me to stop, but I kept going.
The walkers were closing in. There were so many.. The most I've ever seen.
I remember Jessie's house from Pete. Dropping Judith off. Dropping Carl off. I know the house.
Upstairs. I run to the porch, but freeze. Walkers were flooding the inside of the house and living room. It'd be a death trap to get through.
"Fuck!" I scream, jumping over the railing of the porch and to the ground. "Daniel! Woojin!"
I run around the house in search of a way in. The garage was blocked off. The door leading inside through there was broken, more walkers getting in that way.
I spot the gutter. The downspout was made of steel.. though, it'd be risky.
But risky was all I had anymore.
I hook my gun into the back of my pants and grab the steel, hoisting myself up. I climb the narrow pole, fingers getting caught between the steel and the house.
I heave myself up, rolling onto the first floor roof.
Then, I hear crying. Woojin crying.
"Woojin-ah!" I scream, scurrying across the roof.
I crawl to the window, Jessie's bedroom, and push, though it doesn't open. I hear Daniel fighting walkers. No gun. Just a knife.
I bash my elbow against the glass, losing my balance as I fall into the broken window. I fumble around, fighting to my feet.
I shoot and punch walkers, each one starting to look the same now.
"Daniel!" I cry out.
"Hyejin?"
Daniel kicks a walker against the staircase railing. I shoot it and it flies over the egde, splatting on the floor.
"Daniel!" I gasp, running to hug him, tears making my hair stick to my face.
"Woojin's in Sam's closet. These bastards just keep coming," Daniel huffs as I pull back from the quick hug to continue fighting.
Daniel and I end up back to back, fighting walkers that showed up on a constant stream. I try not to use the gun, knowing it would draw them away from where Rick was trying to lead them all. The noise would just bring more here.
Slowly, Daniel and I fight through the second floor of the house, making our way to Sam's bedroom.
"Eomma!" Woojin cries, opening the door.
"No! Close it!" I cry.
Woojin lets out a bloodcurdling scream as I walker slams against the door, his head stuck in the crack. Woojin screams, losing grip on the door quickly.
"No!" I shout, running into the room. Without thinking twice, I tackle the walker to the ground. The dead being and I roll a few times before I straddle it.
Outside the window, flames emerge from the water. Daryl's doing, I'm sure.
I take my gun out, holding it like brass knuckles as I punch the walker, over and over and over again. Again and again. It stops moving, but I keep going. There's little left to its head, the blood and brain matter seeping feet away into the carpet.
I scream in frustration, my gun covered in red, dripping, bits. I lean forward, opening the door.
Woojin was in the back corner, knees to his chest as he cried. He looks at me for a moment.
And I realize how I looked.
Covered in blood and bruises. Fighting. Screaming. Angry.
Did I look like Shane? Rick? When they were on the cliff's edge.. was that how I looked at them?
"Eomma," Woojin whimpers, crawling forward.
I let out a sigh of relief as he jumps into my arms. I hold him close, my eyes shutting as I try to steady my heart.
He was safe. He's safe.
Daniel kneels beside us, running a hand over Woojin's head. The walkers were leaving to see what the fire was and the house was clearing out.
Through the blood, heat, and exhaustion, I find myself crying again. But, not from sadness. This time, of happiness. Relief. I did it.. Woojin was safe. Daniel was safe and he's the reason I was able to save them both at the end.. We did it all together.
