Caitlan's POV:

It's Halloween! And ironically, tonight is a Full Moon. I'm sat in the living room with mum, and my phone rang. It's Evie. "Hey, you're coming to the party tonight right?" She asked. "Yeah, course I am! I'll only be there for an hour or two though, me and mum are gonna have a witchy movie night" I replied. "Awesome! Can't wait to see your outfit!" Evie said happily and hung up. "Promise me, you won't get involved with anything on Mako tonight" mum said worried. "I promise" I smiled and rested my head on mum's shoulder.

I got in my costume. I'm being Medusa tonight. Mum helped me make a headpiece with fake snakes that move. "You look amazing" mum smiled and took some photos. "You heading straight to the cafe?" She asked. "I'm gonna try talking some sense into Zac. And maybe scare him a bit." I smirked slightly. "Just be careful" mum said concerned. "Always, mummy" I hugged mum tight.

I went to the pool and swum to Zac's. I went invisible and used my magic to open the door, and snuck in and recorded on my phone. Cam was dressed as a skeleton, sat at Zac's desk, and Zac was dressed as the devil. "Is it them?" Cam asked. "Nobody's there" Zac shrugged. I then made myself visible and said 'Trick or Treat' - both Cam and Zac let out high pitched, girly screams. I fell on the couch, laughing. "That wasn't funny!" Cam whined, with a small grin, Zac was laughing like crazy. "I couldn't resist. But I was hoping I could try to persuade you not to go after the trident tonight?" I suggested. "Did they send you?" Cam asked. "No. Zac, the trident is a powerful weapon that was used against mermaids" I said. "Cait, there's got to be a reason why I'm drawn to the trident, you mermaids grew up with powers, I deserve powers too" Zac shrugged. "I'm off to the party, see ya there" I sighed and left.

I went to the cafe and jumped out on Evie. She laughed and brought me into a hug. Sirena was singing and Lyla and Nixie were waitressing.

Zac and Cam arrived shortly after. We all danced and had a good time. "I'm gonna head off home, you can't keep me all to yourself" I joked to Evie and Carly. They laughed and brought me into a hug before I left.

I walked outside, and made myself invisible before swimming home. Mum was waiting for me by the pool. "Hey darling, how'd it go?" She asked. "I'll get in my pyjamas then fill you in mum" I smiled.

Me and mum got cuddled up on the sofa, and I told mum everything before we put on Practical Magic. "Whether he'll get the trident, I don't know" I said panicky. "Let's try not to worry about that right now"  mum kissed the top of my head and I rested my head against hers as we watched the movie.

I sat in mum's office before school started for the day. Mum came in, looking slightly worried. "Mum? What's wrong?" I asked. "Evie. She's somehow persuaded me to do an interview with her at home for the online magazine, her apparent angle is 'the human face behind the stern mask'" mum told me. "She may be my best friend but nobody gives my mum that label!" I got defensive, mum laughed and put her hand on my shoulder. "I'd be lost without you my little starfish" she smiled.

At home, Evie, Zac and David came round. Mum was telling Evie about sailing around the world, having me and being the principal at Suncoast. Nixie, Lyla and Sirena then came in, and Evie basically pushed them to join the interview.

We then went to the roof so David could take some photos. I stood between mum and Sirena. Zac said he needed the bathroom, I've got a bad feeling.

After a few photos, Zac wasn't back. "Zac should be back by now" mum said through her smile. He's definitely up to something. David then told Lyla and Nixie to move to their left, and me and mum to move to the right, he wanted some photos of Sirena. I smiled slightly.

"How about we get some photos inside the house?" Evie suggested. "You've got more than enough photos for your article" mum sternly told her. "Cait-" Evie tried to get me to persuade mum. "No Evie. The school doesn't need to see the every inch of our home. Were you even interested in my mum's life? Or using it as an excuse to try to get information about my cousins?" I defended mum and the girls. Evie stormed off.

The five of us went to the Grotto. Lyla said she caught Zac near the bookcase, suggesting he made his way down here. Mum checked the Moon Rings, they're still there thankfully.

Lyla, Sirena and Nixie hid in the Grotto, waiting to see if Zac would return via the ocean entrance, me and mum waited near the bookcase.

We heard a splash, I'm guessing that was Zac leaving. The girls told us that Zac activated the trident. "We're sorry Zac found his way down here" Sirena apologised when we entered the Grotto. "It wasn't your fault." Mum smiled. "Cait, have you ever told Zac about the Grotto? Even if it slipped up?" Nixie asked. "You're seriously asking me that?" I felt myself tear up and I looked at mum, who looked slightly unsure. "You really think I did this?" I ran out the Grotto. "Caitlan" mum called after me.

I went for a swim. I knew I'd get followed, so I went invisible and just swum wherever my tail took me...

Rita's POV:

Sirena, Lyla and Nixie went to look for Caitlan. It's been two hours. I picked up the framed photo of me and Caitlan when she was first born. My heart started aching, and I burst into tears.

The girls came back, I could tell by their expressions that they didn't find my Caitlan. About five minutes later, Caitlan walked in, her face all red from tears. I didn't even hesitate, I ran past the girls and pulled my baby girl into a massive hug. "I'm sorry" Caitlan whispered. "Where did you go? We checked Mako, we snuck to Zac's to see if you were there. We couldn't find you" Lyla said sadly. "About ten minutes after I left, I wanted to come back. But I swam so fast and because of how dark it is, I didn't know where I was. I got lost swimming. I was swimming frantically for about an hour. A pod of dolphins helped me find my way back. I was just extremely hurt that you all thought I'd slip up to Zac. I kept our secret my whole life, do you really think that little of me?" Caitlan sobbed. "No. I never should have been unsure. I'm so sorry, sweetheart" I cried. "We're sorry as well Cait" Nixie said sadly. "Don't you ever do that to me again, my little starfish" I said as I wiped my tears. "I'm sorry mummy" Caitlan cried her heart out. I wrapped my arms protectively around my baby girl. Poseidon then jumped onto Caitlan's knee. "Zac could have seen Poseidon leave the bookcase!" Sirena pointed out. Poseidon mewed, as though confirming what Sirena suggested. "Cait, I'm so sorry for even suggesting-" Nixie tearfully apologised. "Nixie, it's fine. I never should have ran off. It just hurt that you all thought I'd do that, after everything" Caitlan sniffled. "You're my mum, and my sisters. I'd never betray any of you. Mummy I'm so sorry I ran away" Caitlan broke down, which set me off. "You're home, and you're safe. That's all that matters to me my darling" I kissed Caitlan's cheek and she rested her head against mine. "It's getting late, you girls should head home to Mako and get some rest" I said and the three girls gave me and Caitlan a hug before leaving.

Me and Caitlan headed to bed. "I never meant to hurt you tonight mum" Caitlan tearfully whispered. I wiped her tears away. "Baby girl, you didn't hurt me. What hurt was not knowing where you were and that you wasn't safe in my arms. And what hurt the most was knowing that I hurt you even in the slightest to make you run away. You're my little girl, I should have known better to doubt you and for that I'm so so sorry" I felt tears roll down my cheeks. "I promise I'll never run away again, mum." Caitlan smiled as she wiped my tears. "And I promise to never second guess you again, my little starfish" I whispered and kissed Cait's hand. "You and me against both worlds, always and forever" I smiled as Caitlan cuddled in. "I love you mummy" Caitlan whispered and fell asleep. "I love you too, baby. So so much. Never forget that" I whispered back and kissed Caitlan's head before falling asleep myself.
