Caitlan's POV:

Halloween is coming up, Suncoast High is having a dance in the school gym. Mum has Saturday meetings at school so I met Evie and Carly at the Ocean Cafe.

"Shall we wear matching costumes?" Carly suggested. "Oooh that sounds fun!" Evie smiled. "What about the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus?" I said. "Yes!" Evie and Carly said together. "One condition." Carly smiled. Her and Evie looked at each other then said "you're Winifred" - I choked on my smoothie. "I don't get a say in this do I?" They both shook their heads."Ughhh fine." We started laughing. We made a pact not to tell the boys.

After our smoothies, I headed home. I have quite a bit of homework to do. Ms Trumble gave us a good amount of homework (she seems to dislike me just as much she dislikes mum - the students tend to nickname her Ms Trouble), thankfully I've just about finished that one. I also have my maths questions to complete.

I sat on the balcony to do my maths questions - mum got home a few minutes after I did. "Hey sweetheart" she kissed the side of my head and sat next to me. "Hey mum, how'd the meeting go?" I asked. "Let's just say I'd have rather stayed home. How did your little girly date go with Evie and Carly?" Mum asked. "Pretty fun. We decided to dress up as the Sandersons for the dance. They said I have to be Winifred" I groaned after the last part. Mum thought it was hilarious.

Rita's POV:
"You'll have a blast darling. Even if I'm going to be chaperoning" I laughed, Caitlan smiled at me and said "You know I don't mind mum. Some people might be embarrassed that their parents will be at the dance, but I'm not some people" Caitlan took my hand and held it.

Caitlan finished her homework so we went into the Grotto. "So what costume will you be wearing for the dance?" Caitlan asked. "I'm going to dress as a witch" I replied, "you're dressing as Ms Trumble?" We both burst out laughing.

"It's amazing how much treasure you have in here mum." Caitlan smiled as we sat down. "Wanna see my most prized one?" I asked her, her face lit up. "Yeah definitely" - I got up and found an antique silver handheld mirror. "Oooh that's so pretty." She said in awe as I handed it to her and sat back down. "I want you to look into it" I held the mirror in front of her face, Caitlan looked at me confused. "You. You're my most prized treasure, my little starfish. All these that I've found in the sea over the years, sure they're pretty and worth saving. But you are priceless compared to all this, you are more valuable and mean everything to me" I stroked Caitlan's hair and she put the mirror down and wrapped her arms around me in a hug. "I love you mummy" she whispered. I wrapped my arms around her and said "I love you too baby girl. Always."

We did a bit of mermaid work. "So today we're going to conjure a storm. Not a real one, just a small one in a bottle. It's good practice for when you're swimming in the ocean and we can't stay invisible forever. So put your hand like this" I lifted my hand up in a certain position, then helped Caitlan do the same. "Do it in steps sweetheart. Picture the clouds, then the lightning, rain and snow" I instructed softly. I saw a small cloud form in the bottle and then the rain, thunder, lightning and then snow. "Look at you my little brain box. My star student. Both in land and mermaid school" I winked at Caitlan and she had a big smile on her face. "My favourite teacher and world's best mum" she engulfed me in a massive hug again. "How'd I become so lucky eh?" I felt myself tear up. I wrapped my arms around Caitlan and rested my head on hers.

Halloween:

Caitlan's POV:
It's the Halloween dance! I'm so excited. "I'm heading off sweetheart, teachers have to be there slightly early." Mum came out in a witch's costume, I'm dressed as Winifred Sanderson. "Looking good mum" I smiled, "back at you my darling. Carly and Evie are meeting you here aren't they?" "They certainly are mum, see you in a bit" I gave mum a kiss and she left.

Thankfully, the full moon was yesterday - I'm still a hatchling and although I've learn a lot about the Moon Spell, I'm not ready yet - mum said I'm ahead many other mermaids my age, just like she was.

There was a knock on the door, I answered and it was Evie (dressed as Mary) and Carly (dressed as Sarah). "Sistaaaaahs!" I greeted them, we started laughing. "We ready?" Evie asked. "Absolutely!" Me and Carly replied. I locked the door and the gate and headed off to the dance.

For fun, we walked like the Sanderson Sisters from my house, to school. Zac, Cam and David met us outside school grounds. Zac was dressed as Superman, David as Batman and Cam was dressed as a surfer covered in blood. "Do we want to know?" I asked. "I'm Mitch Buchanan from Baywatch - after having a fight with a shark" Cam said proudly. As a friend to sharks, I wasn't too happy but hey land dwellers have different views to mermaids on the beauties of the ocean.

Mum and Ms Trumble stood at the gym doors, Ms Trumble had a devil horns headband on and a red dress. "Where's your costume Ms Trumble?" Cam smirked, we started laughing and I saw mum trying to hide it too. Ms Trumble just ignored Cam. A photographer took our photo, one of all six of us, then the boys and then the girls. He then insisted on me and Mum getting a photo and mum getting a group photo with us.

Doctor and Mrs Blakeley were also chaperoning and waved to us all.

What a fun night! The six of us danced and had a blast - there even was a parent/child dance which me and mum obviously joined - I'm proud to be her daughter. And to end the night, we had 'I Put A Spell On You' playing and somehow they got me, Carly and Evie on stage doing the routine off Hocus Pocus!
