Chapter 36

Caitlan's POV:

Me and mum went to the Grotto, the girls were looking at our different potions. "Unless I'm here, potions are off limits" mum put them away and said they'll learn about them after they get their Moon Rings.

Mum had a School Council meeting and told the girls that David will be coming soon with our seafood order and that there's some treats for Poseidon. I sat in the living room and finished off my homework.

David came not long after, Sirena answered the door, Evie was with him helping with the seafood. Evie started to snoop. "Evie, we've known each other for years, what will you accomplish by snooping?" I asked her. "You know, for someone who's afraid of the water, you sure are interested in the ocean, and it's curious that your mum sailed the world and loves the water but you don't" she pointed out the canvases me and mum made. "Ha - Cait's not af-" Nixie started, but Lyla jabbed her side. "Clearly, there's so much I don't know about you. Some friend" Evie sneered. "I'm gonna go out for a bit, will you three be alright?" I asked Lyla, Nixie and Sirena who nodded.

I made myself invisible outside and went to the beach, I saw Cam on duty. I just went into the sea and swam near Mako before making myself visible again.  I swam home from Mako and just laid in the pool for a while and I dozed off.

I don't even know how long I napped for but I got out the pool and went to the Grotto. Mum was back too, and we saw Nixie give Poseidon his prawns. "Well that's a sight that warms the heart" mum smiled. "It's nice to see you two get along" I said.

The girls told us that they accidentally left out the potions which involved the Mariana Trench Squid Ink, and Poseidon ended up being Evie, before they neutralised him back to himself. Mum wasn't the happiest, I went over to the mess that was made and used my powers to restore all the potions. "Girls, if you disobey my instructions again, I won't teach you." Mum scolded and the girls apologised.

We're teaching the girls the power of the Moon Ring today. "Sirena can I borrow your Moon Ring please?" Mum asked. Sirena got defensive asking why we can't use one of ours. "Mum doesn't like to use or wear hers since she left the pod, I'm also respecting her wishes too by not wearing mine" I smiled.

Mum told me to demonstrate. "Nature can be adapted to camouflage us, since we can't be invisible all the time" mum told the girls and I used the Moon Ring to make the seaweed grow. Nixie (as usual) wasn't impressed, so mum told her to try. She killed the seaweed and Sirena took her ring back. "It takes years of practice" mum said.

The four of us went to the cafe, Lyla was worrying about Zac finding the trident. Sirena told us that Cam is going diving. "He's probably meeting Zac" I whispered.

Lyla went outside and we followed. She decided that she's going to follow Zac and Cam, since she knows where she hid the trident - and then left. "I'll follow her, you two go home and tell mum" I said to Nixie and Sirena, they nodded and I went after Lyla.

I saw Lyla in the reef, she saw Cam and Zac get the trident and she fought to get it off Zac. I swam as fast as I could towards them, then I saw a bright light and blacked out...

Rita's POV:

Sirena and Nixie just told me that Caitlan had followed Lyla. My heart is going frantic. The next thing we know, we hear screams shouting for help. We ran to the pool and saw Zac and Lyla holding an unconscious Caitlan. No no no!

The five of us carried my Caitlan to the Grotto, Zac told us that him and Lyla were fighting over the trident which triggered and zapped Caitlan. Nixie and Sirena were blaming and scolding Zac. "Enough!" I yelled. "We haven't got much time. Lyla get me the Moon Rings. Now!" I ordered and Lyla got them. The four of us used our Moon Rings to try to heal Cait. Nixie was cautious because she didn't want to do to Caitlan what she did to the seaweed.

The Moon Rings are spent due to no exposure to the Full Moon. Zac and Lyla ended up arguing with Nixie and Sirena. "Stop! If anyone should be upset right now, it's me! That's my baby girl lying there! And we can't wait until the next full moon. There might be another way. The trident holds power of the Full Moon as well" I looked at Zac. "I'll go get it." He said and rushed out. I knelt down next to Caitlan and rested my face against hers, "Don't you dare leave me, my little starfish" I whispered, tears rolling down my cheeks.

Zac came back with the trident and he was worried incase he drains the power instead of giving us it. I told him to focus. "I just want to help her. She's my sis!" Zac said tearfully. The trident successfully transferred its power and we managed to bring Caitlan back to us.

Caitlan's POV:
I woke up with a gasp. "Cait!" "Are you alright?" I heard different voices, but I recognised them all. My sight regained and I saw Lyla, Nixie, Sirena and Zac and mum was holding me. "She's going to be fine" mum sighed. "Hey sis" Zac smiled. "That mean we're good?" I asked and we laughed.

Mum helped me walk to the roof, to see Zac and the girls. "How are you feeling?" Lyla asked. "Weak, but I'm getting there. I felt myself slipping away, but I saw my dad in this weird light, he told me that it's not my time and I have to fight. For you guys, and for mum. I felt the energy from the lot of you pulling me back. I guess you can't get rid of me that easily" I smiled weakly. Lyla then told Zac that the Trident can destroy the Moon Pool if it's taken there under a full moon. Mum smiled slightly, knowing that my dad's presence is still with us, I can tell how much she misses him.

Zac and the girls went to Mako to put the trident back where it belongs. Mum took me to bed to lay down. "I'm sorry I went mum, I couldn't let Lyla go on her own" I apologised. "No. Don't apologise sweetheart. I thought I'd lost you" mum sobbed slightly. I weakly wiped her tears away. "Not gonna happen mama" I smiled and kissed her cheek. Mum laid in bed with me, cuddling me and keeping me close. "I'm just glad you're going to be okay, baby." Mum whispered and kissed my forehead and laid with me until I regained my strength. I'm beyond lucky to have her as my mum.
