Mako Mermaids: Rita Santos' Daughter

Chapter 26

Caitlan's POV:

Mum said there's a storm brewing. "I've got Saturday staff meetings, you should head back to Mako" mum said to Sirena, Nixie and Lyla. Lyla said that they should deal with Zac and Sirena said they'd be careful. "Me and Caitlan have had years of  practice dealing with rain." Mum sternly told them. "Am I needed for the staff meeting mum?" I asked, mum smiled and said "no, my little starfish" she pulled me in a hug and gave me a kiss, which I returned.

Mum left and Nixie went to head back to Mako. Lyla tried to persuade Sirena to use her Moon Ring to change the weather. "That's not a good idea." I warned them. "And what do you know?" Lyla retaliated. "More than you. You don't have your Moon Ring yet. And no offence Sirena, I know your sister meant well giving it to you, but you've not earned it yet" I said and Sirena smiled slightly. "You don't have yours either!" Lyla scoffed. "Actually, I graduated Mermaid School at age twelve. Let that sink in" I smirked and went to mine and mum's room to finish my homework.

It's so cold! I went down to the living room and Lyla and Sirena were shivering and covered in a rash, Sirena was going crazy with the phone. "W-what are you doing?" I asked shivering. "David was in the phone!" Sirena stuttered. "Let me guess, you both ignored my warning and used the Moon Ring?" I asked and started to scratch. Great, now I've got the  rash! And I can't call mum since I left my phone on our bed. I can't even go to the Grotto to get supplies to make us better, I'm shivering too much.

Me, Sirena and Lyla are huddled up shivering on the sofa. "Y-you really need to stop disobeying my mum. She might not let you stay if you continue. You might think she's wrong, but she knows so much more than we do!" I stuttered. There was someone at the door, Sirena went to answer. She came back up with David following her with mine and mum's seafood order. "You three need to see a doctor" he said. "No. David please" I pleaded but he called Doctor Blakely's office. Great...

Doctor Blakely came and examined us. He put a thermometer in Lyla's mouth, she thought he was trying to feed her. "You need to go to hospital" he said. "No. I want my mum" I cried.

Doctor Blakely called mum and Nixie walked in. Sirena and Lyla told her what happened and Doctor Blakely gave Nixie the phone, saying mum wanted to talk to her, she had no clue what to do so David raised the phone to her ear. "Doctor Blakely. Please. I've never been to hospital without my mum" I tried to persuade Doctor Blakely to hold off calling the ambulance; he told us there's nothing to be frightened of.

A few minutes later, Nixie (invisible) came back and applied the cure to me, Sirena and Lyla. We got up, feeling better just as the ambulance arrived. "It must have been something we'd eaten" Sirena shrugged.

David and Doctor Blakely left. Nixie reappeared and applied the cure to herself too. "I meant what I said. Mum knows so much more about the land and sea than we do. You might think you know better, but you don't. Me and mum were kind enough to welcome you into our home, the least you can do is listen to my mum" I said sternly and Lyla, Sirena and Nixie nodded. "Also, if you're stuck on clothes, help yourself to mine. But make sure you give them back" I smiled and we all laughed.

Mum then came in, panicked. "Good you're all okay" she sighed and I instantly ran to her and cuddled her.

Rita's POV:

Thankfully the meetings finished early. I'm glad the girls are alright. Mainly my Caitlan. She's never had snow rash - that's probably because my baby girl listens to me. I protectively wrapped my arms around Caitlan. "Rita? Is it true Caitlan graduated Mermaid School when she was twelve?" Lyla asked. "Yes it is Lyla. Caitlan isn't a rogue mermaid, she does as she's told and doesn't break rules that I give her" I smiled and I wrapped my arm around Caitlan's shoulder as she rested her head against mine. I sensed a twinge of jealousy from Lyla, hey my little starfish will always be my biggest accomplishment.

The mermaids left and went back to Mako. Me and Caitlan headed to the Grotto. It's covered in snow! We transformed and fell over. "GIRLS!!!" Both me and Caitlan yelled. "They didn't tell me the blizzard was in the Grotto!" Caitlan grumbled. I melted the snow and stopped the blizzard, me and Caitlan ended up with snow rash. Twice in one day for my darling girl. We dried off and applied the cure to rid ourselves of the rash.

I had some work to finish off so me and Caitlan got cuddled up in the Grotto to warm up as I completed my work. As sympathetic I am for those girls being cast out of the pod, if they put my Caitlan in any danger, I won't let them stay in our home any longer...
