Y/N's POV

I had been planning our date night for weeks. It was going to be special, just the two of us, and I was excited. Noah and I had been dating for 1 year and 6 months, and I thought we were at a good point in our relationship. But as the day approached for out date, my excitement started to fade. Noah cancelled on me at the last minute, saying that he and his friends were going out to eat instead. I was disappointed, but I didn't want to make a big deal about it. Basketball season was in full swing, and I knew how much it meant to him.

The next week, we had another date planned, but again, Noah cancelled. This time, it was because his friend's car broke down and he had to go help him fix it. I was getting frustrated, but I still didn't want to say anything. Maybe he was just having a rough week.

But when the third date got cancelled due to some random reason or another, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I felt like he wasn't prioritizing me or our relationship anymore. I went home that night and cried myself to sleep, feeling like Noah had lost feelings for me.

Noah's POV

I had no idea Y/N was so upset. We'd been having a rough week with basketball practice and games, but I thought we'd make up for it on our next date. But when she cancelled on me too, I was starting to feel guilty. My friends were always canceling on me because of practice, and I didn't want Y/N to feel like she was always getting pushed aside.

That night, my little sister Emma (she's only 5) came into my room while I was doing my homework. She looked up at me with big brown eyes and said in her baby talk voice, "Noah, Noa-a! Why is Y/N sad?" My heart skipped a beat - how did she know? She must have overheard something from her parents or seen something on my face.

I thought for a moment before coming up with a plan. "Emma, you know what? Y/N deserves a special night tonight. And so do I!" Emma squealed with excitement as I pulled out my phone and started typing away.

The Surprise Date

I picked Y/N up from her house at 6 pm on Friday evening. She looked surprised when she saw me standing there in my suit and tie, holding a bouquet of her favorite flowers (whatever you want it to be).

"What's going on?" she asked, her voice tentative.

"I have a surprise for you," I said with a smile.

We drove to a secluded spot near the lake where we first had our first date. The sun was setting over the water, casting a golden glow over everything. We walked hand in hand along the shore, the air filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.

I stopped at a small gazebo in the distance and opened the door to reveal a private picnic setup - candles lit, champagne chilling in an ice bucket, and a delicious spread of Y/N's favorite foods (whatever you want it to be).

She gasped in surprise as I led her inside and helped her sit down. "Happy belated date night," I said, pouring her a glass of champagne.

As we sat there together, watching the stars come out one by one, I realized that sometimes cancelling plans can be okay if it means making up for it in bigger ways later on. And Y/N seemed to think so too - she smiled up at me with tears in her eyes, and we spent the rest of the night laughing and talking like we used to when we first started dating.

After that night, things were back on track between us. We learned that communication is key in any relationship, and sometimes it takes a little extra effort to make things right again. And as for Emma - she just smiled knowingly whenever she saw us holding hands or stealing kisses on campus now.
