In a dark room, a large fireplace lights up only a small section of the room. A boy stares into the flickering flames, an intense look in his eyes.

"Patience... Soon. Just a little longer, and I will finally be rid of those abominations. Then we will be free. I shall bring peace to everyone."

A knock comes from the door. Another boy walks in, leaving the door partially open. A bright light comes from the door, offering more light in the dark room.

"Excuse me! The visitors from Night Raven College are here. We should go receive them."

The boy by the fire clears his throat. "I'll be right there."

The door closes and the boy turns his gaze back to the fire.

"Look at how giddy with excitement they are. Embarrassments, the lot of them. No matter, though... I'm also quite eager to meet him. Just you wait, Malleus Draconia."

Earlier that week...

You hear a bell ringing loudly. Opening your eyes, you see you're in an old city. Cobblestone paths and stone buildings stretch as far as you can see. Another bell rings throughout the city. Glancing up, you see your sitting on the stone steps to a very large cathedral looking building.

"Morning in Paris, the city wakes to the bells of Norte Dame."

Glancing around, you see a tall, lanky man dancing in the streets as he sings. He wears a jester style outfit with a mesh of blue, purple, pink and yellow colors. He wears a yellow cowl with bells on the ends that jangles as he moves. A blue tricorn hat with a yellow feather is on his head and wears a purple mask.

"The fishermen fishes, the baker man bakes to the bells of Notre Dame."

A group of kids gather around the man, listening to his song. He has a puppet that looks like him on his hand.

"Listen, they're beautiful, no? So many colors of sounds, so many changing moods. Because, you know, they don't ring all by themselves."

"They don't?" The puppet asks.

"No, silly boy. Up there, high, high in the dark bell tower, lives the mysterious bell ringer. Who is this creature?"
"Who?"

"What is he?"

"What?"

"How did he come to be there?"

The man places a finger to his lips and hushes the puppet. "And Clopin will tell you. It is a tale, a tale of a man and a monster."

The scene changes around you as he tells the story. You watch with wide eyes as a canal comes into view. A group of people try sneaking onto a boat in the night. Snow falls around them and gathers on the floor.

"Dark was the night when our tale was begun on the docks near Norte Dame."

You can still hear Clopin's voice as he tells the story. A woman tries to quiet her fussing baby wrapped in a thin cloth as a man in a canoe glides next to them. The group get into the boat and glide down the river.

"Four frightened gypsies slid silently under the do docks near Norte Dame. But a trap has been laid and they gazed up in fear and alarm at a figure who clutches were iron as much as the bells."

A dark figure appears from the shadows on a large, black horse. He's an older man with thinning white hair. He's dressed in a black and purple robe, a purple jumpsuit, a purple and black striped tricorn hat with a red sash attached to the bottom, and black shoulder pads with red stripes. He also wears rings on his fingers, two on the right and one on the left, with the jewels colored blue, red, and green.
