No Sense at All

The night presses in around you and the boys, the forest feeling thick and suffocating. The fire casts a trembling orange glow onto the forest, distorting the shadows into something ghostly. The crickets and birds have fallen silent, and the wind now feels like a breath held in suspense. The darkness beyond the circle of light is impenetrable, alive with an unseen threat. Every snap of a twig or rustle of leaves sends ripples of tension through the air.

You bring your knees to your chest, pulling the hood of Floyd's jacket over your head to help protect against the cold. Grim tucks himself closer to your side.

"Hey, Epel." Grim glances over to the boy. "You know the time?"

Epel looks up to the night sky. "It must be past midnight by now. Probably around two a.m."

"So we still got a while before the headmage gets here." Grim shivers. "Brrr... This campfire ain't even warmin' my whiskers. Don't we got any coats or blankets?"

"It does get cold at night here." Jamil glances over to the tents further away. "There should be a bunch of blankets in the tents..."

Grim perks up. "A bunch, you say? That means there's enough to share with your ol' pal Grim! I'm gonna go snag one!"

Grim takes off towards the tents but Ruggie grabs him by the tail. "Slow your roll, Grim. It's too dangerous to go by yourself. We need to stick together."

Grim swipes his tail from the hyena. "Aww, c'mon! The tents are like, right there! I'm freezin' my tail off! I'm gonna catch cold if I don't warm up soon. And don't think I didn't see your teeth chatterin', Jamil!"

Jamil rolls his eyes with a sigh. "Okay, fine. Would a few of you come with us? We're going to get some blankets."

You stand up. "I'll be happy to help."

"I'll come along." Epel offers. "I could use a blanket myself. I'll get one for you too, Ruggie!"

An Equestrian member stands up. "I'll go and grab a few for the Equestrian Club."

Silver nods to his club mate. "Thank you, much appreciated."

"I'll go, too." A Track member joins as well.

Ruggie hums in thought. "I guess that's a big enough group."

You and the rest of the group head towards the tents to grab the supplies.

Sebek rolls his eyes. "Humans are weak indeed if this minor chill is too much for them."

Floyd looks to Riddle with a smirk. "What'sa matter, Goldfishie? You're tremblin', and your lips are all blue. You won't be a goldfish no more if your hair turns blue too. Whaddaya think I should call you then?"

Riddle glares at the twin. "You never lay off, do you? Not even in an emergency!"

Floyd only laughs. "Now you're all red! Glad you warmed up."

Ruggie flicks an ear. "I guess you and Sebek don't mind the cold, Floyd? After all, you have your jacket to Y/N."

"Nah." Floyd shakes his head. "I'm from waters way colder than this."

Sebek smirks. "I'm simply better trained than mere humans."

Ruggie looks to Jack. "Say, Jack, aren't you from somewhere cold too?"

"Yeah." Jack's tail swishes anxiously as he waits for you to return. "This weather would be downright temperate back home."

"Must be nice." Ruggie rubs his arms. "Man, it's seriously chilly..."
