I was in the kitchen when I realized my phone was beeping with a lot of notifications, and that's unusual. I mean, I've not posted anything recently, so I'm sure it's not likes or comments.
Curiously, I entered Instagram just to see Prince Engr. Muhammad Khalifa of Zaria allegedly divorced his first wife, Aisha Isa Abba.
You have to be kidding me.I saw almost three other posts saying the same thing. I didn't have the courage to check the comment section. I know a lot of people would bring up the fact that he recently just got married.
How could Khalifa take such a step without telling me, I mean, he doesn't need my consultation, but I should have at least found out from him, not Instagram.
I headed straight to his room.
He's on a phone call. Well, we will talk about it later. My feet stopped on their own accord when I heard Khalifa saying :"I warned Aisha not to do anything to jidda. Amma, you should have seen the nightmares jidda was facing because of Aisha. The annoying part is that I can't possibly tell jidda that my first wife is evil and that she's responsible for her condition."
"I had to take matters in my own hand, I don't even know where she is presently but I do know she's currently blind, with every ritual, she has to use something dear to her, she used our two babies for hanan's and now she used her two eyes."
I stepped back but ended up pushing the flower vase.
Khalifa looked uneasy, but I don't care. I wanted to run to my room, but the anger in me was building up.
He quickly disconnected the call and faced me."I can explain."
"Khalifa, this is heartless. You yourself have seen how miserable I felt, I was terrified every single night. I used to have sharp piercing headaches. I thought I was running mad, but no, your darling wife was behind it all. I was hallucinating, Khalifa. I was becoming crazy day by day, just because you refuse to divorce your wife."
"Why did you even marry me in first place? Have I ever done anything to you, or have we crossed path before, because it seems like you took revenge on me. For goodness sake, Khalifa, you got married to a psychopath and you hid it from my family and me."
"She used your babies, those innocent souls, God would really punish her if not for anything but for those babies."
"Ya rabbi, I need a break." I rushed to my room and locked it.
"Jidda." He kept knocking on my door, but I didn't move a muscle.
"I didn't know she'll hurt you. She promised to change, but I didn't know what snapped in her head all of a sudden. I was afraid you won't marry me if you found out the truth and I love you so much I just couldn't let you go."
"Khalifa, you practically toyed with my life for your selfish reasons." I shouted.
"Jidda, it was because I love you." I scoffed.
"Listen, I just want to be alone. Just leave me alone."
"Ok, I'm a call away if you are ready to talk."
I heard his footsteps going distant.I hugged my pillow and cried my eyes out. Everything was right in front of me, but I failed to see it. How would I have imagined Aisha is responsible for my nightmares and uneasiness.
I wanted to tell Mama, but I'm sure she'll end up saying it's my fault. She isn't the best person to talk to now, so I called Baba."What happened dear why are you crying." I told Baba everything.
"Subhanallah." Baba muttered.
"Listen dear, think with a clear mind. Take your time and heal before taking any drastic decisions. I honestly don't want you to ask for a divorce. You and I clearly know that your husband loves you a lot."Divorcing Khalifa didn't cross my mind, and I hope it doesn't. I still love that man. I'm just heartbroken now, and I feel betrayed.
"Thank you, Baba."
"Take care, dear."I released a heavy sigh.
I later received an email that entails the list of hospitals with their salary, working hours, and how far they are from our house. Under each hospital their is a person I'll go straight to with my papers and their number by the side.I think it's high time I go back to work.
Thank you so much for adding my book to your reading list 😊 ❤️
