Corlys 87 Laenor 46 Viserys 12 Aegon III 14A dragonrider is a person whose mount is a dragon. Dragonriders could be found among the dragonlord families in the Valyrian Freehold when the Freehold was still strong. The Targaryens were one of these dragonlord families, although far from the most powerful, and were the last known dragonriders to survive the Doom of Valyria and its aftermath. Dragons are intelligent creatures who can be trained to serve as battle mounts and understand vocal commands. They are said to be capricious in nature and have to be trained to keep them from laying waste to everything around them. Like what Ahsoka has been doing with the hatchling shr brings to life. The dragonlords of Old Valyria controlled their mounts with binding spells and sorcerous horns. The Targaryen dragonriders have used commands and whips to direct their dragons. The effect of a whip on a dragon is the opposite of that of a horse. When the dragon is whipped on its right side, it veers right since a dragon's first instinct is to attack. Dragonriders usually ride their dragons using special saddles. Chains attached to the saddle are fastened to the rider's belt for security. However, a rider could leave their chains dangling if they wish. A dragonrider may also ride without a saddle, their legs around the dragon's back or neck. However, the latter is rarely practiced. Ahsoka is the first to do it since the conquest of Westeros. A person may become a dragonrider at any age, much like horses and their riders; some when they are very young, some as teenagers, some not until adulthood. To ride a dragon, a person has to bond with the dragon. Once the dragon and the rider have bonded, that dragon will not allow anyone else to mount it alone while its rider lives, no matter how familiar said person might be to the dragon. The lifespan of a dragon is significantly longer than the lifespan of its rider. When the rider of a dragon dies, that dragon can bond with a new rider. Dragons who have been ridden before, and thus are more accustomed to the presence of men, might be more willing to accept a new rider than wild dragons who had grown to adulthood without having ever been ridden. Only a few known dragonriders have outlived their dragons. No rider has ever ridden two dragons until that of the Queen herself.
The morning after, Aemond and Daemon had returned from Dragonstone. Baela had come to see Ahsoka per her request. Ahsoka was sitting at her desk writing a letter to Luke and Aaliah regarding the move on Oldtown. As well as warn Luke about Jace leaving Dragonstone and heading east to the free cities. She orders Luke to remain in Dorne just in case of an attack. The original plan was for Luke to fly over the Dornish Fleet and help attack Oldtown. But with this new information as well as the threat Jace placed on Luke for betraying him, Daemons son Aegon would be sent on his dragon Stormcloud to help defend Dorne. Ahsoka was finishing up when Baela had been announced in her study. "You wished to see me your grace?" Baela said to her. Ahsoka got up and pulled Baela in for a hug.
Ahsoka: We are family. We've been friends for years now, and you do not have to call me this in private.
Baela: *forced smile*Ahsoka turns back to her writing table and folds up the letter before pouring a dark blue wax seal over the parchment and stamping it with the Velaryon sigil. "You wished to see me?" Baela repeats. Ahsoka moves go the window, and it opens on its own surprising Baela, who grows in anxiety. Ahsoka whistles in a strange way, a way that almost makes Baela hold her ears. A seemingly high-pitched tone that calls a raven into the window after seconds. Its eyes flash white for a moment, and suddenly, memories of Ahsokas magic come to Baelas mind. The raven takes the letter and flies away towards Dorne. Ahsoka turns back to Baela, standing in front of the fireplace.
