Y/N POV
The soft hum of the hospital's fluorescent lights was the only sound that accompanied me as I walked down the corridor, the weight of the night's events pressing heavily on my shoulders. I passed by the nurses' station, catching a glimpse of the tired faces behind the counters. Everyone seemed to be running on fumes, much like me.
Outside the room, the world continued as if nothing had happened. The night sky was clear, the stars twinkling innocently, completely unaware of the chaos that had unfolded beneath them. I took a deep breath, trying to push aside the exhaustion that was threatening to drag me down. Sullyoon was stable, but the night's events had left me with a sense of looming dread.
My phone buzzed in my pocket, pulling me out of my thoughts. I glanced at the screen to see a message from Yujin. "Need to meet. New intel on Chaewon. Important."
I sighed, feeling the weight of my sarcastic comment about tracking devices come back to bite me. With a resigned nod to myself, I made my way out of the hospital. I knew the conversation was far from over and that my sarcastic facade was merely a temporary shield against the inevitable seriousness of our situation.
I got on my bike and revved the engine, the soft roar providing a momentary distraction from my turbulent thoughts. The city lights blurred as I navigated through the streets, heading towards the meeting spot Yujin had mentioned. The tension was palpable, each stoplight and traffic jam a reminder that time was not on our side.
Arriving at the rendezvous point, an old and abandoned diner on the edge of town, I parked my bike and walked inside. The neon sign flickered intermittently, casting a sickly glow over the otherwise deserted establishment. The smell of stale coffee and grease filled the air. I spotted Yujin in a booth near the back, her posture tense as she waited.
"Yo, got a treat for you," Yujin teased and threw me a USB drive. I caught it mid-air and inspected it.
"We both know you're the dog and I'm the cat," I pointed out, allowing a smile to travel across my lips.
Yujin laughed and opened her computer, showing me her assigned job. "I found out someone's controlling her."
"Every evil genius has to have the puppet master." I sighed.
"There are more details but they're going slower than intended," she explained.
"Of course. Because things were going too smoothly already."
Yujin raised an eyebrow. "We both know nothing ever goes smoothly in this mess."
I gave a half-hearted laugh. "Touché. I suppose I'll continue my hobby of narrowly avoiding death until you find out who it is."
"You do have a knack of doing that don't you?" Yujin chuckled.
I smiled and leaned back into the booth. "Someone's gotta keep things interesting. Besides, it's not like I have a choice or anything."
The computer beeped for a second and Yujin typed something in. It didn't take long for me to know what happened. Yujin turned the screen around and showed me a letter Y. I raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"It's not me," Yujin protested and pouted before crossing her arms.
"Wonyoung, Kyujin, Hyunjin, Ryujin, Yeji, Sullyoon," I said. "Could be one of them ya know."
Yujin frowned, considering the possibilities. "True, but it could also be a decoy to throw us off."
I nodded. "Yeah, Chaewon isn't exactly known for playing fair. She could be framing someone or using an alias."
