Y/N POV-FLASHBACK

"You're up against me tonight, Cat," he said, slipping his arm around my neck in a familiar, almost possessive gesture.

"And so I am," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant even though my heart was pounding. Jackson always had a way of getting under my skin, and tonight was no different.

We stood at the starting line, the crowd buzzing with anticipation. The air was thick with the smell of gasoline and the sound of revving engines. I glanced at Jackson, who was grinning like a maniac, clearly relishing the competition.

"Don't go easy on me," he said, his voice low and challenging.

"I wouldn't dream of it," I shot back, my adrenaline spiking.

The signal to start flashed, and we were off. The world blurred as I focused on the track ahead, the roar of the engine filling my ears. Jackson was right beside me, matching me move for move. It was like a dance, one we'd performed countless times before, but with higher stakes and more at risk. One small move could make you see the light or feel the fire.

Halfway through the race, something shifted. Jackson pulled ahead, and for a moment, I thought I was going to lose. Adrenaline kicked in and I pushed harder, reclaiming my lead in the final stretch.

I crossed the finish line a split second before him, the crowd erupting into cheers. I skidded to a stop, breathing hard and grinning despite myself. Jackson pulled up beside me, shaking his head with a wry smile.

"You won," he said, clapping me on the back.

"Guess I did," I replied, my heart still racing.

Later that night, Jackson and I went home after the crowd had dispersed and the autographs had been signed. He looked at me with a mix of admiration and something else, something deeper.

"You never make it easy, do you?" he said softly, stepping closer.

"Would you want it any other way?" I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.

Before I could think, his lips were on mine, the kiss intense and desperate, a release of all the pent-up energy from the race. It wasn't the first time we'd found ourselves in this situation, and it wouldn't be the last.

His hands gripped my hips, pulling me closer as the kiss deepened. It was a familiar dance, one we knew all too well. But even in the midst of it, I couldn't help but feel a pang of uncertainty. Jackson and I had always been more rivals than anything else, and this, whatever it was between us, was complicated.

He pushed me down on the bed, his hands roaming my lower body with a sense of urgency. I didn't fight it, nor did I dislike it. There was something intoxicating about the way he touched me, a blend of passion and familiarity that was hard to resist.

We lost ourselves in the moment, the world outside forgotten. Every touch, every kiss, was a reminder of our complicated history, of the rivalry and tension that always seemed to draw us back together. His lips traced a path down my neck, and I arched into him, a soft gasp escaping my lips.

"Jackson," I murmured, my voice a mix of desire and caution. He paused, looking up at me with a question in his eyes.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle yet filled with the same intensity that always seemed to characterize our interactions.
