Y/N's POV
I woke up with a pounding headache, a clear sign of the hangover from last night's festivities. As I tried to piece together the night, I realized I was still intertwined with Kate, who was sound asleep beside me. The memories of our intimate, alcohol-fueled moment flooded back, and I couldn't help but hope that things wouldn't be awkward between us today.
Just as I was about to carefully untangle myself from Kate, I was startled by the sight of Nat standing in front of us, smirking.
"Guess you two continued the party after Jean and I went to sleep," Nat teased, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
I quickly but gently jumped out of Kate's arms, trying to shake off the embarrassment. "Nothing happened, Nat. We just... like to cuddle, that's all."
Nat raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying my denial, but she let it slide. "Sure, sure. Just cuddling, huh?"
Despite her teasing, there was a warmth in her eyes that made me feel a bit more at ease. She knew me well enough to understand, but she couldn't resist having a little fun at my expense.
"Seriously, Nat," I insisted, feeling my cheeks heat up. "It was just cuddling."
"Alright, alright," Nat said, holding up her hands in mock surrender. "But you should see your face right now. Priceless."
I sighed, rolling my eyes but unable to suppress a smile. Nat's teasing was a good distraction from the confusion I felt. I glanced back at Kate, who was still peacefully asleep, and wondered how we'd navigate this new dynamic. For now, though, I was just grateful for the bond we shared and the comfort it brought, even if it was a bit complicated.
Jean greeted us with a cheerful smile as Nat and I entered the kitchen. We spent a few moments chatting, and Nat wasted no time in sharing my embarrassment from earlier.
Jean chuckled. "If I'd known you were such a cuddler, Y/N, I would have offered to be your roommate." I wasn't sure how to feel about that remark, but I laughed it off to avoid any tension. Jean, noticing my reaction, quickly added, "Just kidding, of course." She quickly shifted the conversation. How about we go out for breakfast at that nearby diner? I hear they have great pancakes."
Nat and I agreed, and I volunteered to wake up Kate. As I entered the room, I saw her sitting at the edge of the bed, tears streaming down her face. My heart sank, and I quickly ran to her side to comfort her.
"Kate, what's wrong?" I asked softly, wrapping my arm around her.
She wiped her eyes and took a shaky breath. "I dreamt of Yelena. It felt so real... It was just too much to handle."
I listened as she spoke, my heart aching for her. I sat next to her, holding her close, letting her take all the time she needed. I understood her pain.
When things calmed down a bit, I gently mentioned the plans we had made. "Jean suggested we go out for breakfast. Do you feel up for it?"
Kate nodded, managing a small smile. "Yeah, I think I could use some fresh air and a change of scenery."
