There was surprise in her voice. "You're having triplets! But the sonogram earlier showed just one fetus!".

"Yeah. But the doctor I saw today, explained the reasons why the second and third fetus might not be visible in an early ultrasound". I explained.

"Well, that's a surprise. I'm sure Mr Stone would be delighted. That means you have more to handle now. Raising one kid is tiring enough, and now you have to raise three, and at the same time". She said.

I remained silent for a while, suddenly envisioning what I'd have to go through as a mother of three kids. I wanted to talk more to Meagan, but she had something to take care of, and hung up quickly.

I took a shower and changed my clothes. Then I slowly enjoyed the lunch Patricia made. After lunch, I went back to my room to rest. 

The next time I saw Ilay was during dinner. I couldn't help but wonder what he and Bianca had been up to that kept him busy for the whole afternoon. He sat next to me at the dinning table.

He held my hand, squeezing it gently. "Sorry I'm late. Did you have lunch?".

I stared at him, and forcefully snatched my hand back. "Yes. I had lunch". I said softly.

He took my hand again, and started explaining. "You're mad at me, I understand. But I had to go. It was urgent you don't know how Bianca can be she— ".

I snatched my hand away again. "You don't have to explain. It's totally normal for you to spend some time with your fiancée. I'm not mad, don't worry".

Mr Stone stared at us without saying a word. I could tell he wanted to know what all the fuss was about, but he ignored us and continued eating.

"Mr Stone, I saw the ob-gyn today, and there's a surprise for you". I said, trying to change the atmosphere.

He gently wiped his mouth with the napkin, "Oh. What's the surprise?".

"Well, I'm carrying tripletd". I said to him.

He paused his movements. "What? Triplets? I'm gonna be a grandfather of three? At the same time?". He sounded very excited.

I nodded with a smile. "Yes. I got another ultrasound done today, and it's confirmed".

"I feel like celebrating! Thank you. Thank you, River. You've given me the best news this year". He said happily.

Ilay protested. "Dad I'm the one you should be thanking. I did all the work here".

His dad threw the napkin at him. "You did absolutely nothing. If River's body wasn't ready for triplets, you wouldn't be having three babies right now. We have River to thank for that".

They kept arguing about it, and I just ignored their childish banter, and focused on my food. After dinner, Ilay went upstairs with me to my room.

"Are you....alright? Do you want me to bring you snacks for later, or a drink?". He asked, as he helped me put my hair in a ponytail.

I sighed. "Ilay, why are you being so nice to me? You have such a beautiful woman like Bianca. She's perfect in every way. You both are from wealthy families, and you look great together. Why are you trying to be close to me. You've been extra attentive for the past few weeks, you've been taking such good care of me. Why?".

I needed to understand his motives. He always used to be cold to me, and his sudden changed attitude was starting to bother me.

He stared at me for a while, not saying anything. "Like I said, there's so much I can't tell you, but all you need to know is, that my care and concern for you is totally real, and my engagement to Bianca, is totally one-sided. She's the one who wants me. I don't want her. It's just an arranged marriage". He explained.

"Get some rest. I'll drop you off at school tomorrow". He said before leaving the room.

I changed into my pyjamas, and laid on the bed. I wondered why Ilay wouldn't want Bianca. She had beautiful waist length black hair, full lips, the small waist that almost every man wants and most importantly she's from a wealthy family. So why? Why didn't Ilay want her?

And an arranged marriage? People still do that in this century?
