A few weeks after the triplets birthday, everything pretty much goes back to normal. River continues with her studies, and I continue with work at the company.

At nights, we took turns to soothe the babies and change diapers. I was glad dad hadn't been pressuring me to get River to leave. Seems he'd finally decided to stomach it.

I wrap my arms around River's waist, pulling her closer. She let's out a soft groan. I kiss her neck. "Are you alright?" I ask. She nods slowly. "It's 2:00am. Why are you awake?" she mumbles.

"Just thinking. About a few things." I reply. She groans again. "Are you... really okay?" I ask, propping myself up on the headboard.

She nods again. "I'm alright. It's just cramps - it'd go away soon." she says. I take a deep breath. "Is there...something I could do to help?"

She tilts her head, looking up at me. "Just go back to sleep. I already took some ibuprofen. Should kick in any moment now."

"Okay," I lay beside her again, as I cuddle-spoon her. I gently place my palm on her lower abdomen. "Does this help?" I ask. She nods, snuggling into my arms. "Thanks," she says softly.

Two hours later, I get out of bed slowly. River is still fast asleep, curled up in a ball. I leave, shutting the door gently, so I don't wake her up.

I head to the kitchen, and luckily, Marianne is there. "You're up early, son. It's the weekend. You should sleep in." she says.

"I will. But, I've got a small issue," I tell her. She frowns. "What's wrong? Had a fight with River?" she asks.

"Of course not!" I reply. "It's just, she... well, River got... uh... cramps." I struggle to speak. I have no idea how to bring up such a conversation. Damn.

She chuckles. "You want something that could help her?" she asks. I nod. "Yes please."

She turns on the stove, and adds water to a small pot. I stand beside her, watching. Then, she adds a few tablespoons of cloves, and brings it to a boil. Next, she let's it cool for a while, and strains it. She hands me the liquid in a glass.

"Give this to her. It'd help." she says. I stare at the glass. "Alright. Thanks I lot." I hurry back to the room. Thankfully, River is still asleep.

I place for glass on the nightstand, wrapping my arms around her again. Her eyes flutter open. "Did I oversleep? Are the kids awake?" she asks. "Don't worry. Marianne is with them." I say. I hand her the glass. "Drink this. Marianne says it'd help."

She sits up on the bed with a smile. "You didn't have to," she says, taking the glass from me.

Fortunately, she starts to feel better after a while. Ever since the birthday party, she always seemed out of it. But she didn't say anything, no matter how much I asked.

I was certain she was bothered by something, but I didn't want to pry too much. I felt she must be worried about our uncertain relationship. But I had a plan in mind.

It was going to be my birthday in six days. On that day, I'd propose to her, ask her to be mine officially, give her a sense of security. That should ease her up I guess.

I keep rehearsing for the perfect proposal. I don't know what to say to girl I used to despise. Not to mention I still have my engagement to Bianca as a huge problem.

Maybe I'd just relax and speak from my heart. A canned speech wouldn't be ideal for a proposal anyways.

On the morning of my birthday, I wake up to River staring at me. Her face is centimeters away from mine, as she takes in my facial features. She smiles gently, as I stare at her.
