Days after my conversation with Ilay in the nursery, I decided I needed to slowly get my life back on track. Mr Stone is currently consumed with the joy of being a grandfather, that it seems like he's forgotten about the contract.
Still, I can't relax. Perhaps he's just ignoring my presence so I can nurse the children until they're old enough? Can I bear to part with them?
Considering my resolve to get my life back on track, I recently returned to college, determined to finish my medical degree. Boy, the school work had piled up so much, I was going to go crazy from it.
It hadn't been easy, especially with the scornful gazes of other students. They would whisper and point, their eyes fixed on my stomach as if they couldn't believe I had been pregnant.
But I didn't care. I was proud of my fertility, proud of the three beautiful babies I had brought into the world. As per the contract, I had to keep the babies and my relationship with Ilay private, but I couldn't help feeling a sense of pride whenever I looked at our children.
As I sat in class, taking notes and trying to absorb as much information as possible, I couldn't help but think about Ilay and the babies. I missed them, even though I knew they were in good hands with Marianne.
Ilay had been supportive of my decision to return to college, even though it meant he had to take on more responsibilities at home.
I headed to my final class for the day, only to bump into someone. "Woah! Watch where you're going, dude." I say, as I squat to pick up my notebooks.
"My God! River is that you?" I lift my head quickly. The voice is all too familiar. It's Spencer.
He pounces on me, hugging me tightly. "Where have you been? I've called you so many times, texted, I thought you left this city or worse."
"I... can't breathe, Spencer." I manage to say before he releases me.
"Oh, I'm sorry," he says. "I was just really worried about you."
I smile at him. "I'm fine, Spencer. My babies are fine too." I say, as he helps me gather my books.
"Babies! You had more than one?" he asked, surprise in his tone.
I chuckled. "Yes. I had three. You can come see them later."

We headed to my next class together. Even though Spencer wasn't in the same major as I was, he attended some of my classes to keep me company sometimes.
As class ended I packed up my things, and walked out of campus with Spencer.
I told him everything that had happened in the last four months. "I'm sorry for everything you've been through, River." he said.
"You don't have to be sorry. I'm fine now. And Ilay has been really supportive." I say, as we walk along the pavement.
"Thankfully, he's better than your ex," Spencer said, lightening the mood. "By the way, I heard he got sent to jail for beating up his new girlfriend."
"What?! Damn. I thought he'd cherish her more, considering he cheated on me with her." I say, laughing.
For the next few minutes, Spencer and I make jest of my ex boyfriend, Justin until I hire a ride back to the Stone mansion.
I scan the living room for Ilay, but he's nowhere to be found. I head upstairs to the nursery, and find the door, slightly ajar. I walk in to see Ilay fast asleep next to the crib.
I smiled to myself. He looked so exhausted and adorable at the same time. I secretly took a picture, and slipped my phone back into my pocket.
I take a step closer to him. I brush his bangs away from his face, and he immediately wakes up. "River. You're home?" he asked, still half asleep.
I smiled. "Yes. I just got back." I say, as I place my backpack on the floor.
He rubs his temple, "Fuck! I was supposed to come pick you up. I fell asleep. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I know you were tired," I say. "Can you stay with the kids a bit more? I'll shower and come back."
He gets off the floor and takes my hand. "They're fast asleep, so we can both go." he says. I blush, knowing the implication of his words.
Back in Ilay's room, I strip down in front of him. I instinctively stare at the scar on my belly. He wraps his arms around me, his fingertips slowly tracing the scar on my belly.
"If you don't like it so much, you could get surgery to remove it." he says, nuzzling my neck.
I shake my head. "I don't mind the scar," I tell him. "I'm grateful for the babies. The scar is a beautiful reminder of that."
He lifts me in his arms, carrying me to the bathroom. He pecked my lips gently. "I've missed you," he whispered.
Yes throughout the time I've been recovering, Ilay has been abstinent. He always held back when he touched me, like he was trying not to hurt me.
I wrap my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. "Then make it quick. They'd wake up soon." I whispered. "I'm all yours."
