I was busy doing work, my bed covered with files and reports, trying to focus on the details that needed my attention. The sound of clicking keys was my only company when a knock on the door broke the silence. "Who is this?" I called out.

"Elena," came the soft reply. I stood up and opened the door immediately.

"Is everything okay? Did something happen? Did someone break into your room? Are you hurt? Elena, answer me," I asked, panic clear in my voice.

Her eyes widened at my sudden panic. "Enzo, calm down. I'm okay. Actually, I couldn't sleep. I feel something off in my room."

I stepped aside, letting her into the room. "Okay, it may sound weird, but I couldn't sleep without you," she admitted, her eyes shining with a mix of worry, melancholy, and guilt.

I couldn't help but chuckle at her confession. It was endearing, really. I walked over to her, gently cupping her face in my hands. Her face felt so delicate and small against my palms. "Come sleep here, Elena," I said softly, placing a tender kiss on her forehead.

Her eyes met mine, and I could see the relief in her expression. Without another word, she nodded and followed me to the bed.

"Hey, Enzo, I guess you were busy. Did I disturb you? I'm sorry, I should go," she said, suddenly looking guilty.

"No, Elena, it's okay. I'm not that busy. Wait, give me a minute. I'll just put these papers away," I reassured her.

"Enzo, please, I can see the way these papers are scattered on your bed. I guess you were really busy. Let's finish your work first. I'll help you," she said, sitting on the edge of the bed.

I looked at her, smiled, and then said, "Okay." I continued working, and she asked questions about things she didn't understand. I explained everything to her, and after an hour, my work was finished. She helped me gather the things, and then we put them aside.

"Thank you for helping me, Elena," I said, looking at her with appreciation. "I couldn't have done it so quickly without you."

She smiled warmly, her eyes reflecting the gentle light of the bedside lamp. "I'm glad I could help, Enzo. You work so hard; it's the least I can do."

I nodded, feeling a strange mix of emotions. "Come, let's get some rest now," I said, guiding her toward the bed.

We both climbed under the covers, and I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close. She nestled against me, her warmth soothing my restless thoughts.

"Good night, Enzo," she whispered, her voice soft and comforting.

"Good night, Elena," I replied, kissing her forehead once more.

As we lay there in the quiet, the world outside seemed to fade away. Her presence was a balm to my soul, her heartbeat a steady rhythm that lulled me into a sense of peace I hadn't felt in a long time.
