Sophie hugged me tightly as I broke down, holding me as I cried, the weight of everything crashing down around me. After what felt like an eternity, the tears finally slowed. I felt hollow, like there was nothing left inside me but this quiet ache. Sophie seemed to sense it, brushing my hair back as she spoke gently.

"Elena, I know it's easy for me to say, but please... don't stress yourself out. It's not good for you-both of you."

Her words hung in the air, and I forced myself to take a breath, but it barely touched the emptiness gnawing at me. "I can't think straight, Sophie. My whole life-my whole fucking life-I was kept in the dark. My mother... Why didn't she tell me this?" My voice cracked, frustration blending with disbelief. "Alright, I get that telling a kid would've been hard. But when I was older? When I could've understood?"

I shook my head, wiping away a fresh tear that escaped. "We were so happy. A family that seemed perfect on the outside-no one would've guessed we had secrets like this buried underneath."

Sophie squeezed my hand, her voice a gentle anchor pulling me back. "Elena... I know how much this hurts. You've been let down by the very people who were supposed to protect you, to keep you safe and honest about your past."

I nodded, feeling the raw ache tighten in my chest. "It's not just my mother, Sophie. My aunt, too. She knew... and she didn't say a word. She kept it from me, even as I grew up right in front of her."

Sophie's face softened, and after a hesitant pause, she finally asked, "What about Enzo?"

I felt my jaw tighten. At first, I couldn't even bring myself to answer, but eventually, I found my voice. "I know he isn't the real culprit, Sophie. My own family hid this from me, and yes... Enzo kept it from me too. But what hurts is that Aunt Maria knew-and she even knew that Enzo knew."

I stared down, my fingers twisting into the blanket. "But right now... I feel like I need space from him. Maybe I even need to leave him. I don't know... I just don't want to see his face for now."

Sophie's hand slid over mine, warm and reassuring. "Elena, I'm with you in whatever decision you take. If stepping away from him brings you peace, then I'll support it wholeheartedly. Your happiness, your safety... those come first."

She drew me close, her words softer than a whisper. "But you have to let me care for you until this little one is born. I won't risk your precious life, or that innocent soul who hasn't even had a chance to see this world yet."

A flood of relief washed over me as I held her close, the weight of it all feeling a little lighter. "Thank you, Sophie. For everything."

I was in a deep sleep when a gentle pressure on my head stirred me. Fingers, warm and steady, were patting my hair softly, like a soothing rhythm to an otherwise restless night. My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the morning light spilling through the window, and there he was-Enzo, sitting beside me, his hand resting against my hair.
