"Say it again," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the roar of the ocean waves crashing against the rocks below us. My forehead was still pressed against hers, our breaths mingling in the small space between us.
Elena looked up at me, her dark eyes wide, shimmering with the remnants of fear and something deeper. For a heartbeat, the world stood still. I could hear nothing but the rapid beating of my own heart, feel nothing but the softness of her skin under my fingertips.
"I love you," she said, her voice barely more than a breath, but I heard it. The words washed over me, crashing through my defenses like waves against the rocks below. I closed my eyes, letting the truth of her confession sink in. My hands tightened around her waist, pulling her even closer. Her body fit against mine perfectly, as if she was made to be there. I captured her lips with mine, kissing her deeply, hungrily, like a man starved. She responded with the same intensity, her hands sliding into my hair, holding me tightly.
I poured everything I had into that kiss-all the emotions I'd been holding back, all the fear of losing her, the need to protect her, the possessiveness that made me want to lock her away from the world. She was mine, and she had finally admitted it.
When I pulled back, we were both breathing hard. I rested my forehead against hers, trying to catch my breath, my heart still pounding in my chest. I didn't want to let go. I didn't want to lose this moment.
"Elena," I started, wanting to tell her everything that was racing through my mind, everything I felt.
She looked up at me, her eyes locking with mine. "Enzo, please," she said softly, placing a finger over my lips to silence me. "Don't say anything. Not now."
Her words were a plea, her eyes searching mine, holding a depth of emotion that made my chest tighten. "I don't know what you're going to say," she continued, her voice trembling slightly. "And right now, I don't want to hear it. I just needed to tell you how I feel. I love you, Enzo. I do. But please, don't say anything in return. Not yet."
Her voice was firm but gentle, carrying the weight of her emotions. I wanted to tell her that I loved her too, that I had loved her for as long as I could remember, but I could see the vulnerability in her eyes, the fear that had not yet completely vanished.
I nodded, understanding her need for space, for time. I tightened my arms around her, pulling her closer once more, if only to reassure her that I was there, that I wasn't going anywhere. "Alright," I whispered against her hair, my voice rough. "Let's get out of here."
She exhaled a shaky breath, her body relaxing slightly against mine. Her eyes still locked with mine, she gave a small nod. "Thank you," she said softly, her fingers lingering on my lips for a moment before she pulled away.
I didn't protest. I didn't push her for more. I respected her boundaries, knowing that some things needed to be felt, not said. For now, her confession was enough. For now, having her in my arms, feeling her heartbeat against mine, was all that mattered.
