We were sitting in a quiet corner of a cozy restaurant, eating lunch. I should’ve felt relaxed, happy even. But my mind was still reeling from what had happened earlier. I had confessed my feelings to Enzo, told him I loved him. He had tricked me into admitting it, using his dangerous driving as a tool to get me to speak the words I’d been too afraid to say. Despite the fear and the adrenaline, I’d done it. I’d told him I loved him.

Now, the reality of it was settling in. I kept stealing glances at Enzo across the table, but his expression was calm, unreadable as always. I wasn’t sure what I expected him to say, but before he could respond, I had quickly asked him not to say anything. I wasn’t ready for his response yet, whatever it might be.

As I tried to focus on my food, my phone buzzed on the table. I picked it up and saw an email notification from my campus. My eyes widened as I read it.

“Shoot!” I exclaimed, startling Enzo.

“What is it?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.

“My graduation ceremony,” I said, still staring at the email. “It’s tomorrow. I completely forgot about it with everything that’s been happening.”

Enzo’s face softened into a small smile. “That’s good news, Elena. You’re graduating.”

“Yes, but I need to get home right now! I have to put the final touches on my project work. I can’t believe I forgot!” I was already gathering my things, my mind racing with all the tasks I needed to finish.

Enzo stood up, pulling out his wallet to pay the bill. “Alright, let’s get you home.”

The ride back to my place was a blur of thoughts about project deadlines and preparations. As soon as we arrived, I hurried to my room and set up my workspace, pulling out my laptop and scattering papers around me. I needed to review everything, make sure it was perfect. My future depended on it.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I grabbed my phone and dialed Sophie’s number. She picked up on the second ring.

“Elena, hey! What’s up?”

“Sophie, I need your help,  graduation ceremony is tomorrow, and I’ve still got so much to do. Can you guide me through some of this?” I asked, trying to keep the panic out of my voice.

“Of course! I’ll help you out over the phone,” she assured me.

With Sophie’s help, I managed to go over my presentation slides, proofread my final report, and organize my notes. While we worked, I filled her in on everything that had happened with Enzo—the confession, the drive, everything.

“You told him you love him?!” Sophie exclaimed through the phone, her voice brimming with excitement.

“Yes, but I told him not to say anything back,” I admitted, feeling a mix of anxiety and relief. “I don’t know what he’s thinking right now.”
