The morning light filtered through the curtains as Sophie gently patted my shoulder, holding out a towel with a sympathetic look.
“This is getting harder for you, isn’t it?” she asked, watching me try to regain my strength.
I sighed, taking the towel. “I know, but the doctor said it’s just part of the first trimester.”
Sophie let out a sigh, shaking her head. “Motherhood is scary- it's beautiful as well, but the nausea? Your mornings literally start with puking.”
I managed a tired smile. “Yeah, I know. But it’s normal, and we’ll get through it.”
We made our way downstairs, and as we entered the dining room, my eyes widened. The table was covered with flowers, candles, and a spread of breakfast dishes. A soft chuckle escaped Sophie.
“He’s really going all out,” she remarked.
“He is,” I replied, settling at the table and noticing a small cake in the center. “I think I’ll tell him today. It’s enough—I’ve forgiven him.”
Sophie smirked. “Oh, finally, some pity for the poor man.”
I laughed, rolling my eyes. “Yes, yes. I’m kind-hearted—it’s enough for him.”
“Look who’s calling themselves kind-hearted,” Sophie teased. “You’re like that for the world, maybe, but not for him. You did what no one else could: you made Enzo Moritti beg.”
“Switching sides, are we?” I teased back, nudging her.
She gave me a mock offended look. “Excuse me, thankless creature! I’ve been on your side this whole time, supporting you, keeping my mouth shut about your pregnancy, and running to the hospital with you every time. So I think I deserve some credit.”
“Aww, my cute bestie!” I said, giving her a playful hug. “I’m really grateful, honestly.”
“Yeah, you’d better be,” she replied dramatically, handing me a glass of juice. “You emptied your stomach this morning; you need it.”
As I sipped the juice, I took in the beautiful setup, reflecting on how much effort Enzo had put in over the past days. I’d enjoyed watching him try so hard, going above and beyond to make up for things.
Lost in thought, I didn’t even realize Sophie was watching me until she nudged my arm. “So, Soon-To-Be Mama, let’s go out tonight!”
I blinked, looking at her in surprise. “You’re serious? Soph, that’s not possible. Enzo’s men are practically glued to us—they’ll definitely tell him.”
She rolled her eyes. “Come on, as if we haven’t sneaked out before! Sure, back then you jumped from the second floor, but today, we don’t need to go to those lengths. Besides, I need to escape these walls for a bit.”
