3rd person pov:

The second week of Kazakhstan’s stay with Russia had settled into a comforting routine. The two brothers were adapting well to their new living arrangement, finding solace in each other's company. Yet, despite the peacefulness of their days, Russia often found himself restless during the quiet, chilly nights. It was on one such evening that he decided to take a solitary walk outside.

The moon hung high in the sky, its silvery light casting an ethereal glow over the fields that stretched out beyond Russia’s new home. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of autumn leaves and the cool promise of the season. Russia adjusted his ushanka for warmth and wrapped his coat tightly around himself, its fabric rustling softly as he moved.

He meandered through the expanse of open land, the tall grasses swaying gently in the breeze. The serene landscape was a stark contrast to the turbulent emotions that had been churning inside him. The fields, illuminated by the moonlight, seemed to stretch endlessly, offering a temporary escape from the weight of his thoughts.

As he walked, Russia noticed the beauty of the night—the way the moonlight played on the leaves, the subtle twinkling of stars above, and the peaceful quiet that enveloped everything. His thoughts drifted to the past, to memories of the Soviet Union, to the times spent with his siblings and the changes that had come with their newfound independence. The night seemed to wrap him in its calm, offering a momentary reprieve from the complexities of his life.

Suddenly, a faint, muffled sound pierced the quietude of the night. Russia stopped in his tracks, straining his ears to catch the source of the noise. It was a soft, persistent meowing, carried on the wind. Curiosity piqued, he followed the sound, his footsteps barely making a sound on the soft earth.

The meowing grew clearer as he approached, guiding him toward a small, secluded area near the edge of the field. The tall grass parted to reveal a small, makeshift nest, and as Russia drew closer, he saw three tiny kittens huddled together. Their tiny bodies were shivering in the cool night air. A pang of sadness hit him as he noticed their mother lying lifeless in front of them, her once-vibrant form now still.

The sight of the kittens, so small and helpless, tugged at Russia’s heartstrings. He knelt down beside them, his breath forming small clouds in the chilly air. The kittens’ meows grew louder, a mix of fear and hunger that was heart-wrenching to hear. He knew he couldn’t just leave them there; they needed help.

Gently, he picked up the tiny creatures, cradling them in his hands. Their fur was soft but damp from the night’s dew. He wrapped them carefully in his jacket, holding them close to his chest for warmth. The little bodies nestled against him, their soft meows now a soothing sound against the backdrop of the quiet night.

As he made his way back to the house, Russia’s thoughts were filled with a mix of concern. The night air was colder now, and he could feel the chill seeping through his coat, but the warmth of the kittens against him provided a comforting contrast. Each step he took seemed to be guided by a sense of urgency and compassion.

When he finally reached the house, Kazakhstan was already waiting for him, his expression a mixture of relief and worry. “Russia, where have you been? It’s late, and I was getting worried.”

Russia looked up at his brother, his face illuminated by the soft glow of the porch light. “I’m sorry, I just needed some fresh air. I found something… or rather, someone.”

Kazakhstan’s concern shifted to curiosity as he noticed the bundle in Russia’s arms. “What’s that you’ve got there?”

Russia carefully opened his jacket to reveal the three kittens, their eyes wide and filled with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. “I found these little ones outside. Their mother… she’s gone. I couldn’t just leave them there.”

Kazakhstan’s expression softened as he looked at the kittens. He crouched down to get a better look, his eyes reflecting a gentle warmth. “They’re so tiny and vulnerable. Do you want to keep them?”

Russia nodded, his eyes reflecting a blend of sadness and hope. “Yes, I’d like that. They need someone to take care of them, and I think they could bring some joy into this house.”

Kazakhstan smiled, his worry giving way to support. “Alright, let’s get them some food and make sure they’re comfortable.”

The two brothers quickly set to work. Kazakhstan prepared a makeshift bed for the kittens in a cozy corner of the living room, using soft blankets and cushions to create a warm, inviting space. Meanwhile, Russia gently placed the kittens in a small box, lined with more blankets to keep them snug.

Kazakhstan then set about preparing some food for the tiny creatures. He filled a small dish with warm milk and placed it near the box. The kittens, drawn by the scent, eagerly approached the food, their tiny bodies trembling with hunger.

As Russia watched the kittens begin to eat, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction. The sight of them settling into their new home, their tiny purrs filling the room, was a comforting balm for his troubled heart. Kazakhstan joined him on the couch, and they both observed the kittens as they adjusted to their new surroundings.

“Did you always like cats?” Kazakhstan asked, breaking the silence.

Russia nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Yes, I’ve always found them soothing. I guess it’s a bit of nostalgia and comfort all rolled into one.”

Kazakhstan chuckled softly, reaching out to gently stroke one of the kittens. “Well, they seem to have chosen the right person to take care of them.”

The conversation continued, but their words were soft and gentle, punctuated by the occasional purr or meow from the kittens. The atmosphere in the room was warm and peaceful, a stark contrast to the chill of the night outside.

As the hours passed, Russia and Kazakhstan settled into the living room, the kittens nestled comfortably on Russia's lap. The soft glow of a lamp cast a warm light over the room, adding to the cozy ambiance. The brothers shared a sense of contentment, their hearts lightened by the presence of their new furry companions.

Kazakhstan wrapped an arm around his brother, his expression one of quiet admiration. “You know, Russia, it’s moments like these that remind me of how much we’ve both grown. Even after everything we’ve been through, you still have such a big heart.”

Russia leaned into his brother’s embrace, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. “Thank you, Kazakhstan. It means a lot to hear that.”

The night wore on, and the gentle purring of the kittens created a soothing soundtrack to their conversation. Kazakhstan’s arms remained wrapped around Russia, offering a comforting presence as they both settled in for the night.

As Russia’s eyes grew heavy with sleep, he couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of peace. The addition of the kittens to their lives had brought a new layer of comfort and joy, reminding him that even in the midst of change and uncertainty, there were always moments of unexpected happiness.

With the kittens curled up peacefully, and Kazakhstan by his side, Russia drifted off to sleep, finally.
