As they arrived back at China’s home, the crisp night air was a stark contrast to the warmth of the day’s adventure. The journey had been exhilarating, but now, the chill of the evening made Russia shiver slightly. China noticed this and decided to make their night as comfortable as possible.
In the dimly lit room, China prepared a warm blanket, hoping to add an extra layer of coziness to the evening. He entered Russia’s room, his arms full of the soft, plush fabric. However, as he opened the door, his eyes widened in surprise.
Russia, unaware of China’s approach, was in the middle of changing for bed. His wings, which he had kept hidden for most of their time together, were now unfurled in their full splendor. They were magnificent, each feather a delicate blend of their white color that seemed to shimmer in the light. China was struck by the sheer beauty of them, a sight he had never seen before. He stood frozen, overwhelmed by the sight of Russia’s wings.
Russia, startled by the sudden presence, quickly tried to cover his wings with his arms. His face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and fear. His wide eyes were filled with tears that began to fall uncontrollably. His breath came in shaky gasps as he backed away from China, unable to process the sudden intrusion.
China, seeing Russia’s distress, dropped the blanket and rushed forward. “ hey hey! It’s okay, Russia. It’s okay,” he said urgently, his voice gentle and reassuring. “You don’t have to hide from me.”
Russia, still trembling, tried to push China away, his strength insufficient against China’s firm but tender grip. China gently but firmly pulled Russia into a tight embrace. He wrapped his arms around him, holding him close in an effort to offer comfort. “You’re safe here. I promise,” China murmured, his voice steady and calming.
Russia’s sobs grew louder, the weight of his hidden secret and the fear of exposure overwhelming him. He clung to China, his emotions pouring out in hot, uncontrollable tears. China remained steadfast, his presence a comforting anchor in the storm of Russia’s feelings.
As Russia’s sobs began to subside, China led him over to the bed. They both sat down, China keeping Russia close. He gently wiped the tears from Russia’s cheeks with the edge of his sleeve, his touch soft and reassuring. “Why did you hide them, Russia?” China asked softly, his tone filled with curiosity and concern.
Russia hesitated, his eyes still red from crying. He looked down, avoiding China’s gaze as he tried to find the right words. “I... I didn’t want anyone to see them. I thought they’d be seen as strange or... unworthy.”
China’s eyes softened with understanding. “They’re not strange at all, Russia. They’re beautiful. You have nothing to be ashamed of.”
Russia nodded slowly, taking a deep breath. “I was afraid. Afraid of being judged or... rejected. I’ve hidden them for so long that it’s become a part of me, they've been used against me in before....”
China’s expression grew more serious, his gaze compassionate. “You don’t have to hide from me. I’m here for you, and I promise that your wings are a part of who you are, and they’re amazing.”
As they continued to sit together, Russia’s kittens, having sensed his distress, climbed onto the bed. They snuggled close to him, their soft purring adding to the sense of comfort and security. Russia smiled weakly at the sight of his beloved pets, their presence a small but meaningful source of solace.
China looked at Russia, his eyes filled with warmth. “I promise, I won’t tell anyone about your wings. It’s your choice who you share them with.”
Russia, feeling a bit more reassured, nodded. “Thank you, China. I trust you.”
As the night wore on, Russia’s exhaustion began to catch up with him. His tears had finally stopped, and his breathing had steadied. China wrapped the warm blanket around them both, ensuring they were cozy and comfortable. Russia’s kittens settled beside him, their gentle purring lulling him toward sleep.
With a final, reassuring squeeze, China settled down beside Russia, careful not to disturb the peaceful environment. The warmth of the blanket and the soothing presence of China and the kittens created a cocoon of comfort.
As Russia drifted off to sleep, his breathing evened out, and his face relaxed. China stayed awake a little longer, watching over Russia and his kittens. He felt a deep sense of responsibility and care for his friend, knowing that their bond had strengthened through this shared moment of vulnerability.
When China finally did close his eyes, it was with a sense of contentment. The trust that had been built between them was solid, and China knew that their friendship had deepened in a way that would endure. The night passed peacefully, with Russia and China both finding solace in each other’s company and the quiet comfort of their shared space.
