3rd person pov:
Russia awoke with a start, the familiar warmth of his father's embrace enveloping him. He was nestled against Soviet’s chest, the rhythmic rise and fall of his father's breathing lulling him back into a semi-conscious state. The room was dimly lit by the early morning light filtering through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the scene.
As Russia tried to shift, intending to slip out from Soviet’s hold, he felt a firm grip tighten around him. Soviet’s arms, which had been so gently comforting just moments before, now held him with a possessive strength. The sudden movement had stirred Soviet from his sleep, and he responded immediately, drawing Russia even closer.
“Where do you think you’re going, dove?” Soviet’s voice was low and drowsy, but it carried an undertone of concern. His breath was warm against Russia’s neck, sending a shiver down his spine.
Russia tensed slightly, the reality of his situation coming back to him. He hesitated, not trusting his voice. His mind was a jumble of emotions—fear, sadness, and a deep-seated confusion over the recent events. The departure of the other siblings, the change in Soviet's behavior, and the relentless abuse had left him feeling hollow.
Soviet’s arms remained around him, his grip both firm and comforting. He buried his face in Russia’s shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of his son. The closeness was both a source of comfort and a reminder of how fractured their family had become. He felt a pang of guilt and sorrow, mixed with a growing sense of regret over how things had unfolded.
Russia didn’t pull away, though he was still unsure of how to respond. The quiet of the room was filled with the sound of their breaths, and for a moment, it felt as if the world outside had faded away. Soviet’s embrace was both a shield and a shackle, providing warmth but also reminding Russia of his captivity.
Soviet finally broke the silence. “I know things have been difficult, and I haven’t been the best father. I see how they’ve left us, one by one. I understand if you’re feeling betrayed or lost.”
Russia’s heart ached at his father's words. He hadn’t expected Soviet to acknowledge the pain and abandonment he felt. He remained silent, struggling to find the right words. The absence of his siblings, the constant abuse, and the crumbling family dynamic had left him feeling isolated and unsure of what the future held.
Soviet continued, his voice softer now, “I’ve always been proud of you, Russia. I know you’ve been through so much. Seeing them leave... it’s left a void in this house and in my heart.”
Russia’s eyes filled with tears. “I tried to protect them, to make sure they didn’t suffer like I did. But now...” He trailed off, unable to finish his thought.
Soviet’s heart ached at the sight of his son’s distress. He tightened his embrace slightly, trying to convey his regret and his desire to make things right. “I know, dove. I know you did your best. And I’m sorry for the pain I’ve caused you.”
Russia nodded against Soviet’s shoulder, feeling the tears finally spill over. The warmth of Soviet’s body and the gentle pressure of his arms were both soothing and painful, a reminder of what had been lost.
As the minutes passed, Soviet’s hold on Russia remained unyielding, a comforting and protective cocoon. The quiet was punctuated only by their breathing and the occasional shift in position. The silence was heavy but soothing, a fragile connection amidst the chaos.
