Mettaton

Ray Pines' Lab - September 16, 2012 - 10:45 AM

The song was coming together so well, Mettaton could hardly believe it. He'd approached Blooky and Shyren about producing it together, and neither of them had disappointed, of course. Blooky's ear for this sort of thing was astounding. The track never failed to get Mettaton moving. The three of them had worked together on the melody, with Mettaton taking the most charge of the lyrics. It had to sound like authentically his voice, after all.

What came through, in the end, was the feelings he felt while working on the song. Adoration and affection for both Shyren and Blooky. He hoped the song would inspire them most of all. Blooky especially was nervous about their music being played on TV like this, in a way where many people would hear it.

So when Mettaton and Shyren sang together in practice, he couldn't help but look at Blooky as he told them to 'write the song, insert the cartridge' and 'never again feel like garbage.' They looked really happy, playing around with the mix while Mettaton and Shyren danced around them.

After the last notes faded out, Mettaton dropped down beside them. Shyren settled on their other side. Mettaton sighed loudly, a happy sound.

"It's absolutely fabulous!" Mettaton proclaimed. "My boss is sure to love it."

"are you sure......?" Blooky asked hesitantly. They looked really hopeful, but also conflicted. Those nerves refused to completely leave them, it seemed. "i feel like it could still be better.... i wanna see if i can get it to harmonize a bit better with shyren's riffs."

"I can try to help with that...!" Shyren offered. "I-I mean, I don't think I do... exactly the same thing every time, but we could try a few things if you want...?"

"yeah....!" Blooky smiled at her. "if you could run it over a few times- just the riffs- i can play around with it."

As the two of them set to work with that, Mettaton let himself sit back and relax. They'd been working on this all morning already. Songwriting was a lot of work. He'd tried it before, of course, but not like this. He'd never written something so personal, collaborating with some of his closest ones. Still, he was very proud of it. He'd even managed to lean into the robot angle while still having it be his.

Hopefully, the reception would be good. But at least some of the pressure was off now. Yesterday had been Papyrus's Christmas party. Which had been... an experience, to say the least. Mettaton had gotten into a pretty big fight with Madi there, and Blooky had left from the stress. But... Madi had eventually agreed not to expose him. And he as well, in turn. So maybe Mr. Workman would have less expectations on him.

Something told Mettaton that would not be the case.

"Knock knock." Rose entered the room without knocking. Mettaton sighed. She had the most horrid timing. He'd actually been enjoying himself without her looming over his shoulder. Rose chuckled to herself. Mettaton shot her a glare. "You just seemed so angry as soon as I came in here. I haven't even said anything yet, Mr. Judgy!"

"I have this sense that I won't like it." Mettaton crossed his arms. "Especially because you seem so chipper."

"Oh, ye of little faith." Rose laughed, stopping beside him without sitting down. Mettaton got to his feet, not appreciating the feeling of her being taller than him. He raised an eyebrow down at her, tapping his foot. Blooky and Shyren also stopped their work to pay attention, although Blooky seemed a little annoyed at the interruption. They must've gotten in the groove. "Fine, I get the message. Sassy... boots. Here's the deal: Boss wants to hear this song, like, yesterday. So, basically, time's up."
