Taylor
I finish track A (I chose writing) then head over to the chapel for some missionaries to speak to us. I walk through the double doors, and take a seat near the back. Everyone files in. The chapel is huge. I was hoping I'd see Cameron, but it's hard to see anyone in this place. I can only see the back of their heads.
An old man and woman begin talking about their missionary work in Japan. At first I'm interested, then I zone out thinking about Cameron's eyes. Stop! Don't! No! Dad will kill me if I met a boy here.
People begin to exit the chapel, so I stand up and follow them. We walk to the cafeteria for lunch.
"Hey," Someone says beside me. I turn to look at him. Cameron. He found me.
"Hey,"
"Ready for lunch?" He says. I don't know why, but random comments like that make my heart flutter for him even more.
"Uh. Yeah, I am."
We both walk in still talking. One of the camp consular's sees us talking and begins to shake her head.
"Yeah, see ya around." I say with a head flick to the lady shaking her head.
He nods his head understandingly, and goes back to find his friends.
I get my food, greasy pizza, and go sit at a table with no one else as usual. I pull out my notebook and begin to write. I've written things since I was little. It's my favorite pass-time hobby. I write stories, how my day is. It's the only way I can vent.
Cameron is so sweet. He really is. I know I shouldn't but maybe I do have a minor crush on him. I keep trying to push the thoughts of his strange colored eyes out of my mind, but they just keep popping in with more. His eyes are such a strange color, though. They're not green. They're not blue. They're like a mixture in-between. I left my pen outside last night, and he gave it to me at breakfast this morning. I've never met someone as sweet and kind as he is.
My words get interrupted by Amber, Anna, and Allison coming over to me. I pull the notebook close to my chest.
"Come on, Taylor, we've already read it." Amber says.
"What are you talking about?"
"We know your little secret." Anna says.
"How you've been hanging out with a retched boy." Allison says.
"I have not." I lie.
"Come on, dear." Amber says. "If you stop hanging out with him we won't tell, but if you continue, then, oops, you two have to get sent home."
"Maybe that's what I want." I mumble.
"If you love that boy you'll stay as far away from him as possible because, you know what they do to guys who hang out with girls?" Anna says.
I shake my head slightly.
"They will beat them." Allison says.
"With a whip, they beat them." Amber says with a sly smile.
"But don't worry, we'll let you say your good-byes at hang time, but that's the last time you can talk to him, anymore and he's gone, mkay?" Anna says.
"What are you the camp police?" I mutter.
All three get really offended, then walk off. I see Cameron coming towards me. No. Stop. Wait until hang time. I don't believe what those girls are saying but still.
I get up and walk away putting my untouched meal in the trash. It's time for Track B anyways.
After track B (I chose musical) I go back to my cabin. I fall face first on my bed. Then I remember, I have to say good-bye to Cameron. Maybe we can see each other in private. I just don't want him getting hurt. I stuff my notebook under my sheets, then walk to the bathroom after grabbing my swimsuit.
I get changed into the one-piece then slip on my flip flops, walk out towards the lake. Cameron is already there talking to his buddies. They seem to be joking around about something. Maybe about jumping in? I'm not sure.
I walk over to them. The lake is even bigger than I thought it was. This crushes my dreams. I love water, and when I heard that there's a lake I flipped. I was so happy, but I hate deep water. I'm completely afraid of water when my feet can't touch the ground anymore.
I wave at Cameron when he sees me. His blond friend says something that I didn't catch.
"Cameron," I say. "We can't be seen together anymore. My roommates will tell the camp consular's and I'll be sent out, and you'll get beat."
"Taylor," Cameron says. "I don't want to risk that. But, maybe we can meet in private at night."
"Yeah, maybe. By that same tree."
He nods. "Come on, jump in the water."
My eyes go wide. "No. I hate water where my feet don't touch."
"Wear a life jacket."
"My experience with life jackets is terrible, I just about died from the last one I wore."
"Fine. Fine. Wade in the pool then."
I walk away from him. When really all I want to do is hug him.
