Our hang time got cut short at the lake because it started to rain. I hope it clears up before I meet with Taylor tonight. We eat our dinner, then go back to our cabin.
"Bro," Aaron says. "You've been silent all day, you feelin okay?"
"Uh. Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine, just confused."
"Dude, you can't see her here. You have to wait until the last day then give her your number." He says.
"Yeah, but that's the thing, I want to talk to her, to find out what our common interests are before I give her my number. But the dumb rule says that we can't."
Aaron comes over and sits by me.
"I know it's hard, bro." He pats me on the back a few times.
"You know, I've never been in a relationship." Ryan says.
"Yeah, well, buddy, I hate to break it to you, but you're weird." Aaron says.
Ryan pushes his glasses back.
Jake turns out the lights, and we scramble to our beds.
"It was lights out like, 10 minutes ago. Do you know how much trouble we would've been in if we got caught?" Jake says.
I wait a few minutes before getting my shoes on, and my hoodie, and heading out the cabin door. It's stopped raining, but the ground is still wet. I walk over to the little wooden bridge that looks over the lake right before the stairs to the tiny slide. I sit down and hang my feet over the edge.
Taylor comes a few minutes later.
"Hey," She whispers.
I smile.
"This is the perfect view to write because of the moon hitting the water it gives enough light." She doesn't sit down yet.
I pat the wood lightly. "Take a seat, I won't bite."
She laughs a little. "This is right over deep water."
"You have to get over your fear eventually."
She shakes her head. "No. Nope. Never getting over it."
She sits legs crossed at the back of the bridge. It's a thick bridge. On one side of the bridge there's dirt, and on the other there's deep deep water. Maybe 10 feet at the least.
"Do you like to read?" She says.
"Yes, I love reading." Her face lights up.
"What books?"
"What books do you like."
"Hunger Games?" She says.
I shake my head. "I've never read it." She looks at me with a shocked expression. "Uh. Maze Runner."
"I read the first one before I came here. I haven't read any of the others. Divergent?"
I nod. "Yep. I Am Number Four."
"Read the whole series."
I smile at her.
We go on talking about books. Books that we've read, and books that we're going to read.
"I should probably go back in." She says after a half hour talking about books.
I nod. I notice before I stand that she inched all the way up to where I'm sitting, but didn't dangle her feet over like I did.
I walk her to her cabin. It's right next to mine. She says that her window looks at a boys cabin. Mine. I hug her before she goes into her cabin.
I walk into my cabin, and go to sleep.
I wake up to bright light coming in through the window. I barely see the boys staring at me from above.
"Bro," Aaron says. "Where have you been going at night?"
I sit up and blink at him a few times. "What are you talking about?"
"People are saying that they saw a boy and a girl meeting up at night." Ryan says.
"Pfft. I'm sure it was nothing." I say.
Jake sighs. "Dude, if you're keeping something from us, please tell us it now."
I just stare at them. I don't want them to know that we've been meeting up. "It's time for breakfast, isn't it? I'm starved."
"Quit changing the subject, bro." Aaron says.
"I thought we were done with this conversation." I say.
All 3 boys just look at me.
"You know, if you were hooking up with that brunette chick, then can you please have the decency to tell us? Me at least?" Aaron says in an almost whisper.
"Well I'm not hooking up with Taylor."
"You know her name!" Ryan points out.
I sigh and go to the bathroom to take a shower. I close the door and lock it, but I still hear them trying to talk to me. I turn on the water.
"I can't hear you." I yell.
When I walk out of the shower the boys are standing there with their arms crossed.
I walk to the cafeteria. One of the camp consular's stand on one of the tables to get our attention.
"Hello. Hello. Hello." He starts off. "As you know, today is Wednesday, and I know most of you were hoping that this will go until Sunday, but it's getting cut short, and you will be going home on Friday instead." My eyes find Taylor's hazel eyes. We stare at each other. "There's been an... incident. I'm not allowed to go into details... yet."
I think I really love her. I've never met someone that makes me feel this way. The boys will say differently, but I was just pretending.
"Continue to eat breakfast." The man says. He gets off the table, and starts walking my way. What do I do? I walk away. I walk to the line and try my best to blend in. He walks right past me. Phew.
I get my breakfast and sit with the boys keeping an eye on Taylor who sits alone. Her roommates she was telling me about go up to her and start talking. I can't hear what they're saying, and I wish I could. But, Taylor looks pretty annoyed at the moment. She looks like she's on the verge of punching her in the face, or breaking her neck.
"Stop staring." Aaron says. My focus moves back to him. "I see you staring at the girl."
"We're not doing this again." I say.
"Yes. We are." Jake says. "Come on man, you heard the guy. It's camp's getting cut short because of you."
"I'm sure it wasn't because of me. He would've said something to me." But deep down I know it's because of me.
"Okay, okay. Fine, fine." Jake rolls his eyes.
