Taylor
My phone buzzes. It buzzes again. I sigh and try to ignore the buzzing. Every 10 seconds it buzzes. I turn on my phone, the bright light stings my eyes. I look at the 10 texts Cameron sent me.
Hey.
Hey, you awake?
I need to ask you something
Text me back when you're awake.
Please?
Wake up
Now
You can just text me in the morning if that'll be easier.
Okay, guess you're asleep.
bye.
I start typing him a message.
Cameron, what's so urgent that you had to wake me up to tell me? This better be good. I almost got in trouble for talking to you the other night. So whatever it is it better not get me in trouble.
He takes a minute before responding:
Okay, Taylor, so my mom's getting married on Saturday, and I was wondering if you'd like to come with me? You can just stay the night if it gets too late.
I'm slightly shocked that he's asking me to meet with him, but also slightly relieved. I respond:
Uh. Cameron. I would love to go to your mom's wedding. But, my parents don't know about you, so I'll have to lie, and they can't know about you until I'm like 18. But that's only in a few years, so we just have to stay hidden until then. But yes, I can come. Pick me up around the corner of my street so they don't see you.
Then he just texts back with:
Okay, see you then ;)
Ooh. I can't wait to see him again. I'm getting chills just thinking about him. As I fall asleep I think about how I'll ask my parents so I can leave.
"Taylor, it's time to wake up." Lilly says with a nudge.
I open my eyes and see her looking down on me. I extend my arms and wrap them around her. I have to tell someone about Cameron. I can't just be living a lie.
"Lilly, I need to tell you something." I say in a whisper.
"Yeah?" She whispers back.
"It's a secret you can't tell anybody, okay?" She nods. "I'm going to be seeing a boy on Saturday. Mom and Dad don't know, but you do, and you're not allowed to tell anyone, okay?"
"Okay." Her smile is huge. Bigger than it's ever been before.
She runs out of my room, and I hope she won't tell Mom. I walk out of my room.
"I heard your phone buzz last night. Who was texting you?" Mom says.
"It was one of my friends. She was wondering if I can spend the night on Saturday. Can I?" I say.
"Only as long as you're not talking on the phone."
"Thank you."
She knows it's hard for me to make friends. So her letting me go to a friends house that she's never met is really weird. I eat breakfast, then go into my room to figure out what to wear even though it's 4 days away.
