Cameron
Aubrey says that it's for the best that I move on without her. I don't believe her. I'm not sure who or what to believe anymore. I miss Taylor. It's my fault she left. I told her it was a mistake for me to go to the library. She's not going to the same camp this year. She's going to a different one. One at a college campus. Maybe I can go to that one. I don't know. It sounds fun. But, I might not see Taylor anyways.
"Come on, Cam, it's time to go." Aubrey says. I finish gathering my things, then head out to the car.
Mom took my license away. She doesn't want me to get in anymore accidents even though it was the other guys fault.
"Cameron, I know you're sad about Taylor leaving, but you've got to get over it. It was just a minor crush." Mom says.
"It was more than a crush." I mumble.
"What was that?" She says.
"She was my first crush. It was meant to be. But you people took that away from me. Now I'll never see her again!"
Mom pulls up in the driveway. I open my door before we're fully stopped, and I slam it shut. I stomp into the house, and walk up to my room, and slam my bedroom door behind.
I hear Mom walk up the steps, and lightly knock on my door. "Cameron," She says. "If she was meant to be you'll see her again."
"Except for the fact that I won't!"
I'm mad. There's nothing for me to hit in my room. I look on my desk. There's a picture of Dad, Mom, and me.
"You could've helped me. Why'd you have to leave us?" I say in slight whisper.
I look at everything Dad's ever given me, or helped me make.
"It was all just a game! A game to get closer to me, then leave when you have the chance!"
I pick up a stool that he helped me make when I was 6, and toss it out the window. The window shatters, and the stool breaks into a million pieces. I take the picture with the glass framing and toss it out the window, too.
"Why'd you leave us? You ruined our lives!"
I take more stuff, and toss it out the window.
"Cameron!" Mom says. She opens my door and comes in. I don't turn around. I'm still holding a little toolbox that he made for me when I was 5.
Mom grabs my wrist, making sure I don't throw that out the window. Her fingers feel smaller around my wrist. More delicate. I turn around and see a girl with wavy honey-brown hair staring at me. Taylor. It's Taylor. Tears well up in my eyes. I drop the toolbox on the ground and give Taylor a hug.
"Cameron. I need to go. I'll see you this summer I promise." Taylor whispers in my ear.
"Taylor. Don't go. Please."
She's still hugging me, holding me up, but I can tell she's smiling. "It's okay, Cameron, we'll see each other soon enough."
She stops hugging me, and walks away.
"Wait." I grab her wrist.
"Cameron, I must go now."
"Are you real?" I say. This whole thing with Taylor standing there, it can't be real.
"I'm sorry, Cameron." She says.
Taylor disappears. She doesn't walk away. She just disappears. I move my hand over the spot where she just was, but there's nothing there. I fall to my knees and put my hands on my eyes.
Mom walks into the room.
"Sweetie what are you doing?" She says.
I don't look up. She's probably already seen the window broken, and the stuff Dad gave me all over the ground outside. I don't care what my punishment is. I'm just not going to move.
