Taylor
I walk into the kitchen. "Taylor," Dad says. "Where were you last night?"
"I was at a friends house." I say.
"It has come to our attention that you were not at just any friend's house." Mom says.
"I was at a friend's house. Believe it or not, I was."
"Who have you been texting at night?" Mom says.
"Nobody." I lie.
"Taylor, you can't always lie yourself out of situations. Tell us who you were texting." Dad says.
I cross my arms, and lean more on my left leg, keeping my right knee slightly bent.
"I was not texting anybody."
"Let's see your phone." Mom says holding her hand out.
I grip my phone tightly so she can't get it out of my grasp.
"Just give her the dang phone for crying out loud." Alexis says.
I walk over to Alexis.
"Stop being such a tattle-tale, Lexi. You know what happens to people who are always tattle-tales? Nothing. They never make it through life. Stop turning me in, because I know you're the one who keeps telling Mom and Dad things. Don't try to deny it, Lexi." I say. I lower my voice to a faint whisper and say. "If I could hurt you and get away with it, I would."
"DON'T TALK TO YOUR SISTER THAT WAY!" Mom says. "GIVE US THE PHONE. YOU'RE GROUNDED."
"Fine." I throw my phone against the wall, and it breaks into pieces. I stomp away into my room.
Mom and Dad are yelling at me. I slam my door shut, and lean against it until I'm sitting. What have I done? Why? Now I have no way of talking to Cameron.
I walk back into the kitchen after 4 hours of being in my room.
"Throwing your phone was not necessary, Taylor." Mom says.
I roll my eyes.
"Stop giving us such attitude missy." Mom says.
"Why do you even care?" I say.
"What type of friend have you been hanging out with."
"A friend." I say. "You always want me to meet people and become friends with them, well now I have and your punishing me for it."
"I didn't think your attitude would change so much by the people you hang out with."
She's angry. Her voice is raised, but in her eyes I see tears forming.
"Taylor, you have always been my sweet little girl. A little girl who did what she was told without complaining. Now you're changing. I just want to know why."
"People change." I say in a harsher voice unexpectedly.
"I just want what's best for you. You understand that, don't you?" She says in a soft voice.
"Sure. But, if you wanted what's best for me then you would've let me not go to camp."
I gasp, and cover my mouth with my hands. Why would I say that? Why?
"I'm sorry, Taylor, you won't go again next year, I promise."
"Good." Maybe it would be better if I didn't go. Better if I didn't get my heart broken.
"Lilly has a doctor's appointment tomorrow. She hasn't been feeling very good." Mom says.
I nod.
"She's been coughing a lot, and has been complaining that her chest hurts." Mom says. "She would really like it if you came with."
"Okay, I'll go with." I say.
