"For Certain" by PARTYNEXTDOOR was bumping through the speakers in my room, setting the vibe while I got deep into cleaning. I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly felt the urge to get everything spotless, so I was in full clean mode—dusting, sweeping, and organizing like my life depended on it. Yesterday was a whirlwind, meeting more of Zayvior's family, and it still felt surreal that he was finally home and recovering. As I scrubbed the corner of my dresser, my phone buzzed, and I saw Soraya's name pop up on the screen. A small smile tugged at my lips, and I answered the call.
"Hi, Jade!" Soraya's cheerful voice came through, sounding like she was in good spirits.
"Hey, Soraya. How you feeling today?" I asked, leaning against my bedpost while catching my breath from all the cleaning.
"Well, I'm good, but your niece is turning my stomach into a punching bag," she replied, chuckling as she munched on something.
I could hear the crunch and just had to ask, "What are you eating?"
"Pickles with chocolate," she said, like it was the most normal thing in the world.
I scrunched up my face in disgust. "Gross, Soraya. That's nasty."
"Whatever," she said, dismissing me with a laugh. "But listen, I need your help. Your brother is getting on my last nerve."
"You knew what you signed up for when you decided to date Ja'zai," I teased, smirking even though she couldn't see me.
"Nooo, because I asked him to get me some food, and he said no!" Soraya pouted, her voice sounding frustrated.
I could only shake my head, already knowing where this was going. "What did you want this time?"
"Fries from McDonald's, Chipotle, a chicken and bacon ranch melt from Subway, and donuts from Dunkin'," she said, listing off her cravings like it was a regular grocery run.
"Gah damn, you're hungry as hell!" I burst out laughing, imagining her sitting there with a list of cravings and that pregnancy glow.
"Well, obviously! I'm eating for two," she shot back, rolling her eyes as if I didn't get it.
