AS I MADE MY WAY to Jade's house tonight, the weight of what I had to do hung heavy on my shoulders. But before facing the darkness, I needed to bask in the light of her presence.

Jade greeted me at the door with a smile that could light up the whole room. Her warmth enveloped me as she pulled me into a tight hug, and for a moment, I forgot about everything else. She smelled like vanilla, a scent that always brought me comfort.

"Hey, bae, what brings you here?" she asked, her eyes filled with curiosity and concern.

"I just needed to see you before I head out," I replied softly, my voice barely above a whisper. I didn't want to worry her, but I needed her to know I was thinking of her.

"What's going on?" she asked, her brow furrowing with worry.

"We're going to confront someone tonight," I explained, trying to keep my tone steady despite the turmoil inside me.

Jade's expression softened, and she reached out to caress my cheek, her touch like a soothing balm on my troubled soul.

"Just promise me you'll be careful," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes searching mine for reassurance.

"I will," I vowed, feeling her words sink deep into my heart.

She pulled me into another hug, holding me close as if trying to protect me from the dangers that awaited outside. And in that moment, I knew I had found solace in her embrace, a haven amidst the chaos of the world.

As I pressed a tender kiss to her forehead, I silently vowed to return to her, to come back to the warmth of her arms once the storm had passed.

"I don't know if I should," I confessed to the group chat, feeling the weight of uncertainty pressing down on me

"I don't know if I should," I confessed to the group chat, feeling the weight of uncertainty pressing down on me.

"Girl, just text him it ain't that serious," Cimani suggested, her words laced with practicality.

"But it is serious. What if he doesn't?" I countered, but before I could finish, My'Ari jumped in.

"Nuh-uh, you said he visited, right? You know that he loves and cares about you. Why would he visit you before doing his big one?" she reasoned, her words offering a glimmer of hope.
