"Make a Mil" by PARTYNEXTDOOR played softly in the background as I laid back in my queen-sized bed, scrolling through social media. I wasn't really paying attention to anything in particular, just letting the time pass. My room was dimly lit, and the soft glow from my phone screen was the only source of light. I felt at peace, just minding my business, relaxing.

Then my phone buzzed, interrupting my calm. It was a call from Kailany. I sighed, wondering what she wanted, and accepted the call.

"Heyy," I answered, my voice casual as I kept scrolling through my feed.

"Heyy, girl! What you doing?" Kailany's voice was energetic as usual, and I could tell she had something planned.

"Just chilling, honestly," I said, glancing at my nails, noticing they could use a fresh set.

"Umm, so me and the girls have decided that we're going out Saturday," Kailany said, her voice carrying that tone that meant I wasn't about to say no.

"Cool. Where are we going?" I asked, a little excited to hear the plan. It had been a minute since I went out with them.

"Club Ecstasy..." she trailed off, like she knew what was coming next.

I paused, my excitement fading quickly. "I'm not going. Have fun," I said flatly. I knew exactly who ran that club, and I wasn't trying to put myself in that situation.

"C'mon, Jade! You're telling me you're not going to the club because of a nigga? I repeat, a nigga?" Kailany emphasized, trying to make me see how ridiculous it sounded.

"Kailany, I'm really not in the state to see him right now. I'm dead serious," I sighed, feeling the weight of everything on my shoulders again. I wasn't ready for that confrontation, not with everything that had happened between me and Zayvior. The last thing I needed was to run into him while I was still sorting through my feelings.

"Girl, we're gonna have fun! Maybe he won't even be there. Please, Jade, you need this. We need this!" Kailany begged, her voice almost pleading. She wasn't one to give up easily, and I could feel her persistence through the phone.

I hesitated, knowing she had a point. It wasn't just about him. I needed to get out, have fun, and maybe even remind myself of who I was before everything got so complicated. After a long pause, I finally caved.

"Fine, I guess I'll go," I said, my voice a mix of reluctance and resignation.

"Yay! Okay, girl, come to mine at 8 on Saturday. We're gonna get lit!" Kailany cheered, her excitement infectious despite my reluctance.
