Hello! While I would love that everything I have written in this story eventually comes true, I do not want what happens in this chapter to actually happen. Please bear with me! I swear there is a reason why I decided to go ahead with this idea. As always, I cannot control myself and this turned out longer than planned. Oops! Hope you like anyway! ~

Chapter 34

A worried Deepika hurried back to the front door after the call. She stopped before reaching the handle, feeling light-headed; her hands were shaking. She couldn't believe this was happening again. It wasn't the first time she received this type of news but that didn't mean she could ever get used to it.

She had been scarred for life after seeing him confined to a hospital bed, fighting for his life, critical with dengue fever. She couldn't even remember those awful days without her eyes watering, without her chest tightening; the possibility of losing him had been too real and terrifying.

He is accident-prone, his mother told her with eyes too red and tired from crying. She knew that, she heard about the injury to his back just a year before that. She wasn't around during that time but just picturing it made her heart ache. He has always been this way, his mother said and now Deepika shared her pain.

Not too long before the dengue, he had already gotten injured on the sets of Gunday. The permanent scar on his handsome face forever reminded them of it. That had been minimal in comparison to the infection and the back injury but Deepika still worried. There were hurt feet and fingers too and then a horse accident that required surgery and months of rehabilitation. Much more than she could handle see him go through but she was grateful he was able to overcome it all.

And now his assistant called her saying he had an accident and was taken to a hospital. She could barely remember which one. He sounded nervous and she asked him a million times if Ranveer was ok and he said it was a small accident but that didn't ease her. "Not again, please. Not again." She repeated to herself.

She managed to find the strength to tell her driver to take her to the hospital. In the car she fumbled through her phone and called her mother-in-law. She didn't want to scare her but as a mother, she knew she needed to know. She downplayed it but she could tell by the sound of his mom's voice that she was also quite worried. How could she not? Ranveer is her son.

The drive felt painfully slow. Deepika stared at the background image on her phone the whole time, praying in her head, trying not to "lose it." It was a small accident. He will be fine. He will be fine... She repeated many times trying to convince herself. He was smiling so big in the picture that his eyes looked tiny. Ria and herself were also in it, he was in the middle and they both hugging him. Nothing made him happier than his girls' love and undivided attention and they loved to pamper him too. Everything had been perfect that morning just hours earlier when they were in each other's arms and now he was at the hospital? Why did these things have to happen? Why to him? He's so good to everyone. Why?

Her heart threatened to beat out of her chest as she entered the hospital. It felt like a déjà vu and this was probably the last thing she wanted to relive - it was torture. She saw people in the waiting room. His assistant and the director of the film, who also happened to be a friend of theirs, and a few others were there.

"How is he?!" She asked before she even reached them.

"Deepika!" The director rushed towards her. He could tell she seemed altered. "He is fine but we can't see him yet. Sit down, he is ok. Don't worry..." He motioned for her to sit but sitting down was the last thing in her mind at the moment.

"What happened?!" They kept saying he was fine but nobody told her what happened to him. She needed to know.

"Deepika-"
