Chapter 36
Ranveer was anxious to complete the film he left on hold. He felt terrible for the people whose schedules got messed up due to his injury but even his own schedule got affected. He wanted to wrap the film up well before Deepika's due date as he didn't want to be working when the baby came.
He kept in contact with the director, who along with the team continued working as much as they could without him. They missed him though and they visited a few times, one of them Valentina and others came along with Homi. She complimented the art that decorated his cast; there were colorful doodles and little hearts. Ria, the artist, proudly took credit for it all but the handwritten messages that of course, were left there by her mommy and Papa's mommy.
Ria told them how papa needed the cast for part of his leg not to "fall off." They all laughed and the little girl watched them with confusion. Ranveer told them how she had been taking really good care of him and how besides being a great artist, she was also the best doctor ever.
The little girl had a doctor play set and she used the stethoscope, thermometer and syringe on him all the time. He had never gotten as many shots in his lifetime as he did during those days. Her stethoscope worked in very interesting ways too, since she used it on his broken leg, on his forehead and sometimes too on her mommy's tummy when she was around. With it, Doctor Ria could tell that his leg was healing well and diagnosed mommy with a "baby in her tummy." Her mommy was ecstatic to learn she had a baby in there and not that her tummy had grown so big because she really loved ice cream. Doctor Ria scribbled on her notepad and her handwriting was just as illegible as that of most doctors. She prescribed the best medication Ranveer ever had too; colorful, small pieces of candy she passed off as tablets and hugs and kisses from herself and mommy. After hearing these stories, everyone agreed Ria made an excellent doctor and caretaker.
They sat in the living room as Ranveer was already doing better. Ria remained by his side, as she always did, but especially when Valentina was around. Her parents had never seen her sit still for so long. It was amusing.
Deepika went to the kitchen for something to offer to their guests and Homi followed her, to chat and because he noticed neither her nor Ria seemed to like the female star of his film.
"I don't mind." Deepika shrugged it off. She wasn't exactly upset that he brought her along. She was fine. Besides, he brought more people too and Ranveer's mom was there also so Valentina was behaving.
"Are you jealous?" He teased.
"Of what? Of her?!" She shook her head immediately. "No. I'm not." He chuckled and she gave him a look.
"Well, I wanted you in this film but you got knocked up." He continued teasing her and she playfully punched his arm.
"Well, you could have waited for me." She teased him too. "I'll be back in..." She pretended to calculate in her head "...six months."
"Who are you, superwoman?" Super actress, super wife, super mother; she gave everything her best and she excelled at all of it, that was her thing.
She laughed and he helped her carry the tray with food and tea back to the living room.

"Are you ok, beti?" Ranveer's mom asked with a soft voice, trying not to scare Deepika, who was sitting in the living room in the middle of the night.
