Chapter 37
"Our baby is coming!" Ranveer exclaimed and wrapped an arm around Deepika's shoulders, kissing her cheek. He couldn't hold back, he was excited! He was going to become a papa again, to another little human being who he and his Queen had created together. They knew they were having a baby but now it was more real than ever. They were having a baby TODAY. Ria was finally going to meet her baby brother. The poor girl was so impatient, even more than Deepika who was the one actually carrying the baby.
"He is..." Their baby would be with them that very day. Deepika smiled with teary eyes, already picturing the little baby in her arms. She couldn't wait to see him, their baby boy, a small version of her beloved Veer.
Her mom smiled and her dad went back to the bedroom, looking for his phone to tell his other daughter to get on the next flight so she could be there with them.
"What's that smell?" Deepika's mom asked. The couple looked at each other with surprise.
"The cake!" They exclaimed at the same time and Ranveer jumped off the couch and ran to the kitchen. There was smoke coming out of the oven. He frantically looked for an oven mitt and he found only one. He still managed to take it out with only one hand and quickly placed it on top of the stove. It was completely burned but he didn't care. He had more important things to worry about like his wife in pain, pushing out life.
"Were you baking a cake?" His father-in-law asked confused as he joined him in the kitchen.
"Deepika wanted chocolate cake." Ranveer said with a nervous smile and her dad smiled too. He appreciated how much Ranveer spoiled his daughter. He knew he was a good guy and small things like this made him like him even more. Sadly, the cake was inedible and they had to get rid of it so the smoke and the terrible smell went away.
"When should we go to the hospital?" Ranveer asked once back in the living room. He hated seeing Deepika suffer. Why did it have to hurt so much to give birth to a baby? This was just the beginning and she was already in pain.
"The cake got ruined?" Deepika asked almost at the same time as he spoke. He chuckled, did she still want cake?
"When the contractions are five minutes apart." Her mother answered his question.
After an hour, there had barely been any progress. The contractions were still fifteen minutes apart and 30 seconds long. They were sitting in the living room chatting and Deepika was the only one laying down with her head on her mom's lap and her feet on Ranveer's as he gave her a foot massage. Her dad was on another couch. They all laughed when Deepika said she still wanted cake. Her dad got up saying he could try to go find some but she said she was kidding and asked him please not to. It wasn't even four in the morning. Too early.
Eventually, they all returned to their bedrooms. Deepika was calm and didn't want to keep them all up waiting with her. They would be very tired during the day if they stayed up. Her parents didn't want to go to sleep but she told them Ranveer would wake them up when the contractions came more often.
He held her close in bed as he tried not to panic. She fell asleep between contractions. He asked her how did it feel and how bad it hurt and she said it wasn't too painful but that her whole belly felt really tight and that she felt pressure down there... It sounded terrible to him and he kissed her shoulder admiring how brave she was. He had an arm around her and his phone in his other hand with the stopwatch running, pressing lap when she had a contraction and also when it ended to see how often they came and how long they lasted.
