A few weeks earlier, before anybody knew, husband and wife cuddled in bed like they did every morning. The alarm would go off and he would wrap his arms around her, not letting her get out of bed, begging her for five more minutes - which would then turn into ten, fifteen or thirty extra minutes in bed. Which would then lead to both of them running around the house trying to get ready on time. Deepika didn't like to be late but she enjoyed fooling around in bed a little before their day started; sometimes it was cuddling, sometimes kissing, sometimes both, sometimes more.
One morning, cuddling led to kissing and soon started to escalate into more. His hands sneaked under her pajamas, his face buried in her chest. He kissed her there and she moaned and he was about to undress her when she abruptly pushed him away. She pushed him by the shoulders and jumped off the bed, running to the bathroom, leaving him utterly confused.
"What was that?" he followed her to the bathroom only to find her on her knees in front of the toilet. He rushed to pull her long hair back and out of her face and got down to his knees as well, rubbing her back as she helplessly emptied the contents of her stomach into the porcelain bowl.
She wondered what could have made her sick. The last meal she had was dinner, over 10 hours ago...
He helped her up when she was done and walked her to the sink so she could brush her teeth. He just stood there by her side, looking at her with a dumb grin on his face. She could see his reflection in the mirror while she brushed. "What?" she asked with her mouth full of toothpaste. He didn't say anything, he just hugged her from behind.
She rinsed her mouth and when she was done she turned around to face him. She didn't understand why he was still grinning. Throwing up isn't fun, it's awful!
"Don't you realize it?" He asked, grabbing her by the arms and bringing her closer to him.
Realize what?
Her eyes grew bigger the moment she understood. Duh! How could she even think food made her sick? "Oh God!" The dumb grin on his face was now reflected on hers and he saw tears threatening to spill from her eyes, and he wanted to cry too... He's a big guy with a huge heart and seeing his girl cry breaks him almost instantly, even when she's crying happy tears.
"Finally... All the hard work paid off." He whispered between kisses. Not that he complained about the hard work, it caused some desperation at times but it had been really, really fun.
They held each other in the bathroom for a good while. Deepika hadn't been thinking about it lately, she was focused on her work. It was killing her to worry about it, she was starting to think there was something wrong with her. But her doctor said there wasn't and her mom told her it would happen the minute she stopped stressing about it and it did. Moms are always right.
Speaking of moms, Ranveer couldn't wait to tell his mom. He had taken Deepika back to bed and they were allowing themselves a little more time to let it sink in. "I need to tell my mom She'll be so happy!" He said looking for his phone but she stopped him. "Wait. Don't tell her yet, not until we're sure." Their math supported their theory, they just needed a test. He was sure, 100% positive. She didn't want to get too excited in case she had a stomach bug instead of a baby in her belly. "It's not a bug, it's a bun." He joked and she smiled hoping he was right.
~After a few more kisses and caresses on her still very flat belly, they decided to get up and start their day. They showered together, quickly, as a team. He brushed his teeth while she scrubbed his back and at the same time rinsed shampoo off her hair. Even in the bathroom they made a great team. It took them some time to learn to use the shower for actual showering and nothing else, but they had it down already.
"I can't wait to take a test until we're on set. I want to find out now." He complained with his mouth full of breakfast. Deepika tried to keep herself calm and collected as she ate hers but she couldn't stop thinking about the possibility of an itty bitty Ranveer growing inside of her.
"We're running late." She said and he got up from the table and called their driver who was already waiting outside. He sent him to buy a bunch of random stuff, including a couple of pregnancy tests.
~
Tears of the happiest kind ran down their faces as they embraced once again in the bathroom, two tests in hand, both positive. They kissed and hugged and jumped (Ranveer did) and he lifted her in the air.
"We're having a baby!" They repeated a million times. It was almost unbelievable.
The look on his face when he saw the test was of pure delight and she couldn't get over that. He was truly excited, as much as she was. And that made her even happier.
They were so late for work that day... with red eyes and big smiles.
