Life is precious.

Everyone knows such a phrase.

It's common in literature, films, entertainment, art, dance, etc.

But for one certain individual standing on the streets of the Kanto region in Japan, having stopped short after looking at the large TV screens plastered to the sides of buildings, her schoolbag dropping as she placed a hand over her mouth in horror, she didn't find said line true. The news coverage that her eyes traced was one on Kira.

Or more specifically, his death.

"It can't be," she whispered, shaking her head as her trembling fingers fell limply to her side. "Kira is... dead?"

No.

He... was supposed to make this world better.

Pure.

Clean.

Rid of filth that do nothing.

"Kira..." the announcer declared, his expression grim and his dark eyes mute as the infamous scrawl flashed across screen. "...has now been pronounced as dead. Though his identity remains secret to protect his family, it was said that L had contacted the student in helping with the Kira case. Tragically, L is now dead. A successor has taken his place after an excruciating process, and..."

The announcer droned on, but no one was really listening after that

"What?"

"L is dead? And so is Kira?"

"A student... huh?"

"So young..."

Murmurs echoed around (Y/N), but she paid no attention to them, her head dropping while her hands balled into fists at her sides.

This isn't right.

This isn't right.

This isn't right.

Clicking her tongue, she stalked off, picking up her discarded bag and slinging it over her shoulder before beginning her trek home, her mind a blur as everything that was announced caught up to her, slamming into her like a wall. She believed that Kira was supposed to be the reckoning to all those who stood against justice, and now his death left her only bitter, the biting cold swirling all around her not helping her mood, either.
